From 1987 to 1996, Fitzroy's best and fairest award was known as the Mitchell Medal, named after Percy Mitchell, a long-serving club administrator and life member.

The Fitzroy Football Club is an Australian rules football club currently competing in the Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA). Formed in 1883 to represent the inner-Melbourne municipality of Fitzroy, the club was a member of the Victorian Football Association (VFA), before becoming a foundation member of the breakaway Victorian Football League (VFL/AFL) in 1897.
Barry Round played for Footscray and South Melbourne/Sydney in the Victorian Football League (VFL) between 1969 and 1985. Along the way, he played 328 games, won a Brownlow Medal in 1981 and was the Swans' first captain during the Sydney era. Round's height and weight was 193 cm and 108 kg.
Martin Pike is a former professional Australian rules footballer, who played in four Australian Football League (AFL) premiership sides. Highlights of his career included a premiership with the North Melbourne Football Club, three more with Brisbane, the final AFL best-and-fairest winner with Fitzroy in 1996, and selection in the 1998 South Australian State-Of-Origin side.
Kevin Joseph Murray MBE, commonly nicknamed "Bulldog", is a former Australian rules footballer who played for the Fitzroy Football Club in the Victorian Football League in 333 games over 18 seasons.
Garry J. "Flea" Wilson is a former Australian rules footballer who played for Fitzroy in the Victorian Football League (VFL).
John Murphy is a former Australian rules footballer who played in the Victorian Football League.

Jack Moriarty was an Australian rules footballer and champion goal-kicker in the Victorian Football League (VFL).
Allan Gordon Ruthven was an Australian rules footballer in the (then) Victorian Football League. He played his entire 222 game career with Fitzroy. In 1950, Ruthven won the prestigious Brownlow medal.
Francis Eduardo Curcio was an Australian rules footballer who played his entire 249 game career for the Fitzroy Lions in the Victorian Football League (VFL). He captained the club for four seasons, from 1938 until 1941.
Norman Alfred Johnstone was an Australian rules footballer who played his entire 228 game career with the Fitzroy in the (then) VFL. He was a ruckman, but was capable of kicking goals when pushed into forward line.

Fred Hughson was an Australian rules footballer who played for, captained, and later coached Fitzroy in the Victorian Football League (VFL). He was the last person to lead Fitzroy to the premiership before their merger with the Brisbane Bears, doing so in 1944 as both captain and coach.

Chloe Molloy is an Australian rules footballer playing for the Collingwood Football Club in the AFL Women's (AFLW). She is also a correspondent on Fox Footy show AFL Tonight, and also works as a match-day interviewer for the Collingwood website, after graduating from Holmesglen Institute with a Bachelor Degree in Sports Media.
