The Former Residence of Deng Xiaoping (simplified Chinese :邓小平故居; traditional Chinese :鄧小平故居; pinyin :Dèng Xiǎopíng Gùjū) was built in the late Qing dynasty (19th century). It is located in Paifang Village of Xiexing Town, Guang'an District, Guang'an City, Sichuan, China. [1] [2] It has a building area of about 833.4 m2 (8,971 sq ft), embodies buildings such as the old houses, the statue of Deng Xiaoping, the Dezheng Place (德政坊), the Cultural relics Exhibition Hall, the Hanlin Yard (翰林院子). [3]

History

In the late Qing dynasty (19th century), the house was built by Deng Xiaoping's great-grandfather Deng Xinzao (邓心早) and grandfather Deng Keda (邓克达).[ citation needed ]

Deng Xiaoping was born here on 22 August 1904, in the 37th year of the Guangxu reign. He lived here for about 15 years. [4]

In July 1997, it was listed as a National Patriotic Education Base by the Central Propaganda Department of the Chinese Communist Party.[ citation needed ]

In February 1998, the General Secretary of the Chinese Communist Party Jiang Zemin wrote "Deng Xiaoping's Former Residence" on the horizontal tablet.[ citation needed ]

On 25 June 2001, it was listed as a Major Historical and Cultural Site Protected at the National Level by the State Council of the People's Republic of China.[ citation needed ]

On 13 August 2004, the CCP general secretary Hu Jintao attended the unveiling of the statue of Deng Xiaoping. [4]

The Four Modernizations were goals formally announced by China's first Premier Zhou Enlai to strengthen the fields of agriculture, industry, defense, science, and technology in China. The Four Modernizations were adopted as a means of rejuvenating China's economy in 1977, following the death of Mao Zedong, and later were among the defining features of Deng Xiaoping's tenure as the paramount leader of China. At the beginning of "Reform and Opening-up", Deng further proposed the idea of "xiaokang" or "Moderately prosperous society" in 1979.

<span title="Chinese-language text"><i lang="zh">Boluan Fanzheng</i></span> Post-Mao transition period in China

Boluan Fanzheng refers to a period of significant sociopolitical reforms starting with the accession of Deng Xiaoping to the paramount leadership in China, replacing Hua Guofeng, who had been appointed as Mao Zedong's successor before Mao's death in 1976. During this period, a far-reaching program of reforms was undertaken by Deng and his allies to "correct the mistakes of the Cultural Revolution", and restore order in the country. The start of the Boluan Fanzheng period is regarded as an inflection point in Chinese history, with its cultural adjustments later proven to be the bedrock upon which the parallel economic reform and opening up could take place. As such, aspects of market capitalism were successfully introduced to the Chinese economy, giving rise to a period of growth often characterized as one of the most impressive economic achievements in human history.
