Galadima Football Club formally known as Galadima Football Academy is a Nigerian football club based in Abuja, Nigeria. [1] [2] The team currently compete in the third division of Nigerian football league system, the Nigeria Nationwide League. They play their home matches at the Area 3 Artificial Turf Football Field, Abuja.

History

The club was originally called Galadima Football Academy prior to its formation in 2002. The Academy was renamed to Galadima Football Club. With increasing interest from numerous foreign scouts, three players were sponsored abroad to play in Hungary after the Academy won the 7th Dreamland Embassy of Hungary Cup organized by the Embassy of Hungary in Abuja. Sani Abacha 10th head of state of Nigeria (1993-98)

Sani Abacha GCFR was a Nigerian general who ruled as the military head of state of Nigeria from 1993 until his death in 1998. He seized power on 17 November 1993 in the last successful coup d'etat in the military history of Nigeria. He was the Chief of Army Staff between 1985 to 1990; Chief of Defence Staff between 1990 to 1993; and Minister of Defence. Abacha became the first Nigerian Army officer to attain the rank of a full military general without skipping a single rank.

Ibrahim Coomassie was a Nigerian police officer and the 9th Inspector General of Nigerian Police serving between 1993 and 1999, under the military governments of Generals Sani Abacha and Abdulsalami Abubakar. He died on Thursday 19 July 2018 after a protracted illness. He was 76 years old.

1993 Nigerian coup détat

The 1993 Nigerian coup d'état was a bloodless military coup which took place in Nigeria on 17 November 1993 when the Armed Forces, headed by Defence Minister General Sani Abacha, forced Interim President Chief Ernest Shonekan to resign. Shonekan assumed the interim presidency on 26 August 1993, succeeding General Ibrahim Babangida as head of state, in the aftermath of Babangida's annulment of the 12 June 1993 presidential election. In a nationwide broadcast following the coup, Abacha cited the stagnant nature of Shonekan's government, and his inability to manage the democratic process in the country as a cause of his resignation. In September 1994, Abacha issued a decree that placed his government above the jurisdiction of the courts, effectively giving him absolute power. Another decree gave him the right to detain anyone for up to three months.

The 2019–2020 Nigeria Professional Football League was the 49th season of the top-flight division of the Nigerian football league system and the 30th season since its rebranding as the 'Professional League'. The league started on 3 November 2019 but was cancelled in July due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic with no champions and no teams relegated. Enyimba were the defending champions, after winning the Super 6 play-offs the previous season
