The area lies on a raised plateau to the south of the Cathkin Braes, about 8 miles (13 km) southeast of Glasgow and close to the boundary with East Renfrewshire.

It is home to the terminus bus-stop of the First Bus Greater Glasgow 21 route. It also has the Gardenhall Inn within its boundaries. The East Kilbride local bus service, the First Bus M1 service, as well as the Mcgills services 395/396 and 399 also pass through the area.

Duncanrig Secondary School

Calderglen High School

Calderglen High School is a state-run secondary school in the St Leonards area of the Scottish new town East Kilbride, in South Lanarkshire. The complex of buildings is situated on the precipitous bank of the Rotten Calder Water, overlooking a meander named the School Bend. The school derives its name from the Calder Glen (gorge) which the river occupies, which is a site of special scientific interest (SSSI). The school has a pupil roll of approximately 1800, and 130 teachers, making it one of the largest secondary institutions in Europe. The school's houses are named Cameron, Torrance, and Struthers.

Clarkston is a suburban town in East Renfrewshire, in the Central Lowlands of Scotland. It lies 4.7 miles (7.6 km) east of Barrhead, 7.2 miles (11.6 km) east-southeast of Paisley and 3.9 miles (6.3 km) northwest of East Kilbride. A small dormitory town with a population of 14,944, Clarkston is on the southern fringe of the Greater Glasgow conurbation and directly adjoins the neighbouring suburbs of Busby, Giffnock and Stamperland.

Calderglen Country Park

Calderglen Country Park is a country park in the Scottish town of East Kilbride. It is situated at the south-eastern edge of East Kilbride and is the town's main park. It is centred around the 17th century Torrance House which is a Category A listed building. The central area of the park is approached via the old entrance gatehouse and tree-lined driveway of the old estate.
