Gergő Oláh (born 26 November 1988, Salgótarján) is a Hungarian singer and countertenor of Romani descent, most notable for winning the third season of X-Faktor [1] and for participating in A Dal.

Personal life & music career

Before participating in X-Faktor, he worked in the public sector. He came first in the third season. [2] He is also Gigi Radics's cousin. [3]

A Dal

In late 2014, Oláh was selected to participate in A Dal 2015, the Hungarian national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 with the song A tükör előtt. [4] The song reached the semi-final before being eliminated.

In December 2015, he was announced as one of the participants of A Dal 2016. He tried again to represent Hungary in the Eurovision Song Contest, this time with Győz a jó. [5] He made it to the final and then the superfinal, but was not chosen; that honour going to Freddie.

Oláh also competed in A Dal 2017 as part of the band Roma Soul with the song Nyitva a ház. They were eliminated in the semi-finals. [6]

Oláh is competed in A Dal 2019 with the song Hozzád bújnék. [7] He was initially eliminated in the semi-finals, but after Petruska was disqualified following allegations of plagiarism, Oláh, being the eliminated semi-final entrant with the highest points, was brought in to replace Petruska. [8] He was eliminated in the finals.

Hungary participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 with the song "Pioneer" written by Zé Szabó and Borbála Csarnai. The song was performed by Freddie. The Hungarian entry for the 2016 contest in Stockholm, Sweden was selected through the national final A Dal 2016, organised by the local Media Services and Support Trust Fund (MTVA) and the Hungarian public broadcaster Duna Media Service Provider. An initial 30 entries competed in the national final which consisted of six shows: three heats, two semi-final and a final. Entries were selected to advance in the competition based on the votes of a four-member judging panel as well as the votes from the public. Eight entries qualified to compete in the final of A Dal 2016 where the judging panel first selected four of the entries to proceed to a second round of voting. In the second round of voting, "Pioneer" performed by Freddie was selected as the winner based entirely on a public vote.
