Gundam Seed: O.M.N.I. vs Z.A.F.T. is a third person arcade game based on the Gundam Seed franchise. It was developed in 2005 by Capcom and published by Bandai (now known as Bandai Namco Games) in Japan. Similarly to Mobile Suit Gundam: Gundam vs. Zeta Gundam, the player can choose to ally themselves with either O.M.N.I., Z.A.F.T. or Blue Cosmos and fight against the other factions. The Arcade Mode has 9 stages plus a bonus Extra Stage.

It was released on the PlayStation 2 in the U.S. on June 29, 2005, while its GameCube counterpart, which was planned for release the following month, was mysteriously cancelled. The game takes place seven years after the One Year War Gundam storyline. The game features 31 mobile suits which can be played on five different modes. These modes are arcade, versus, universal century mode, survival, and training.
On November 11, 2005, a PlayStation 2port was released in Japan which featured new pilots and units from the sequel Gundam Seed Destiny, as well as new unlockable features.

It is the sequel to Gundam Seed: Rengou vs. Z.A.F.T. with a slightly revised fighting system, new units and characters, and updates to old characters. Playable characters and units are taken from Gundam SEED as well its sequel Gundam SEED Destiny. Whereas the console version of its prequel had only a few units and playable characters from the beginning of Gundam SEED Destiny such as the Impulse Gundam, RvZ2 includes characters and units from the entire series, such as the Strike Freedom Gundam and Infinite Justice Gundam
Gundam Seed: Federation vs Z.A.F.T. Portable
In March 2007, A port of the game was also released for the Sony PSP by Bandai Namco Games in Japan. In addition to the extras available in the PlayStation 2 version of the game, the PSP version includes an all new Mission Mode with missions based on the plot of the anime. Aside from the new mode, the PSP version is an otherwise direct port of the PlayStation 2 version with all unlockables from PS2 version already unlocked in the PSP game without the need to play Arcade Mode several times.

Game Modes
Arcade Mode
This mode provides the same basic gameplay as the original arcade, with the added bonus that players may configure various fight settings to customize the gameplay. The AI skill level, along with Damage dealt/received, round time, boost gauge, and other options for Arcade battles, may be adjusted in Game Options. Players may also choose to engage in cooperative gameplay with a friend in the Arcade multiplayer co-op mode. However, not all units in the game are playable in this mode.
Free Battle/VS Mode
Versus Mode features all playable units in the game, including units you cannot select in Arcade Mode. This mode supports up to 4 human players or play against 3 AI opponents in a free-for-all deathmatch or in teams. The PlayStation Portable version uses the PSP's Ad Hoc mode to connect players but does not support Game sharing so each player must have their own copy of the game.
Mission Mode (PSP Exclusive only)
In Mission Mode, players must first choose O.M.N.I. or Z.A.F.T. as his/her alliance. About half-way through the storyline, players can choose to either continue serving their original alliance or defect to the Orb Union. Players start off with two of four basic units, depending on their initial alliance. Players fighting for the O.M.N.I. forces start off with the FX-550 Skygrasper and UWMF/S-1 GINN WASP. Those playing as Z.A.F.T. pilots are given the TFA-2 ZuOOT and UWMF/S-1 GINN. As the game progresses, players will also acquire new units after beating certain missions. Additionally, points awarded after each mission allow players to upgrade to better mobile suits by filling up their SP gauge (similar to leveling up with an EXP gauge in most RPGs). Different units are made available depending on the choice of upgrades selected by the player.

Shinn Asuka is a fictional character in the Japanese science fiction anime television series Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny by Sunrise, part of the Gundam franchise. Appearing as the series' lead character, Shinn is a member from the military organization ZAFT composed of genetically advanced humans known as Coordinators. Shinn joined ZAFT after his family had been killed during the previous war between ZAFT and the Earth Alliance, and bears an enormous hatred towards his home country Orb for not protecting them. Across the series, Shinn starts questioning his motives to fight for ZAFT. He is voiced in the Japanese series by Kenichi Suzumura and by Matthew Erickson in the English dub.
Athrun Zala is a fictional character from the Japanese science fiction anime television series Mobile Suit Gundam SEED and its sequel Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny, part of the Gundam franchise. In the former, Athrun Zala is introduced as a member from the military organization ZAFT, composed of genetically enhanced humans known as Coordinators. Participating in the war between Coordinators and regular humans, referred to as Naturals, Athrun discovered that his childhood friend Kira Yamato was a member of the Naturals' military organization, the Earth Alliance, despite being a Coordinator. Across the series, Athrun encounters Kira and, after almost killing him, Athrun starts questioning his own motives to participate in the war. Athrun returns in Gundam SEED Destiny participating in another war and is the protagonist of its compilation films. He is voiced in Japanese by Akira Ishida and in English by Samuel Vincent in the Ocean dub and by Chris Hackney in the NYAV dub.

Kira Yamato is a fictional character first introduced as the protagonist from the 2002 Japanese anime television series Mobile Suit Gundam SEED, which was produced by Sunrise as part of the Gundam franchise. In the series, Kira is a first-generation Coordinator, a genetically enhanced human being born of normal humans (Naturals). At the beginning of Gundam SEED, Kira lives on the neutral space colony Heliopolis to avoid the war between the Coordinators and the Naturals, but the colony becomes involved in the war shortly thereafter. Kira is the only person within the Earth Alliance—the Naturals' military faction—who is able to effectively pilot their mobile suit—a type of a mecha created by them. He is forced to become a mobile suit pilot and to participate in various battles to protect his friends. Cagalli Yula Athha is a fictional character introduced in the Japanese science fiction anime television series Mobile Suit Gundam SEED by Sunrise, part of the Gundam franchise. In the series, Cagalli is one of the regular humans, labeled as Naturals, fighting against genetically enhanced humans known as Coordinators in a prolonged war. Despite being seen fighting on the battlefield at various times alongside the Naturals military organization the Earth Alliance, Cagalli is later revealed to be the daughter of Uzumi Nara Athha, the leader of the neutral country of Orb. After assisting her new allies to stop the war, Cagalli becomes the leader of Orb. Her new role as such is further explored in the series sequel, Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny. In the start of Mobile Suit Gundam SEED, Lacus is a good natured and popular female vocalist from the space colony PLANT. Late in the war between the races of Coordinators and Naturals, Lacus becomes the co-leader of the Clyne Faction, joining with the Archangel to stop both sides from fighting.
