The HBMS Cascarilla (P 302) is the second of four Damen Stan 3007 patrol vessels commissioned by the Royal Bahamas Defence Force. [1] [2] [3]

Design

The Cascarilla, and her sister ships are 30 metres (98 ft) long and 7 metres (23 ft) wide, and have a maximum speed of 24 knots (44 km/h). [4] She and her sister ships have a shallow draft, for inshore work. She is designed for missions of up to five days. She is designed for a crew of 13.

While most modern vessels are designed with a clipper bow, Damen built the Cascarilla, and her sister ships, with an "axe bow", a new style of bow intended to make for easier sea-keeping in rough weather. [4] At her stern she is equipped with a stern launching ramp, which enables her to deploy and retrieve her waterjet-propelled pursuit boat, without first coming to a stop.

Operational history

In early 2016 the Cascarilla was damaged in a grounding. [5] Repairs cost $23,000.

On June 15, 2016, the Cascarilla exchanged gunfire with individuals they believed were Dominican Republic fish poachers. [6] No crew members were injured, but the poachers got away.

On January 2, 2018, the Cascarilla intercepted a 40 foot sailing sloop carrying 91 undocumented migrants. [7]

On March 27, 2018, an undocumented Haitian immigrant triggered a search when he was able to phone Bahamanian officials and report the smuggling vessel he was on had sprung a leak. [8] The Royal Bahamas Defence Force requested the United States Coast Guard to dispatch aircraft to help locate the vessel. After the USCG located the vessel, the Cascarilla intercepted a smuggling sloop and rescued 89 undocumented migrants from Haiti. [9]

HMBS <i>Bahamas</i> (P-60) Bahamas offshore patrol vessel

HMBS Bahamas (P-60), along with sister ship HMBS Nassau (P-61), is a 198 foot Offshore Patrol Vessel delivered to the Royal Bahamas Defence Force on 12 January 1999. Both vessels were built by Moss Point Marine of Escatawpa, Mississippi to a design by Vosper International Ltd, Naval Architects and Designers, Glasgow, UK. Bahamas serves the RBDF by patrolling Bahamian waters in anti-poaching and illegal immigration control missions, notably interdicting Haitian vessels, as well as drug enforcement missions in cooperation with the United States Coast Guard and Drug Enforcement Administration as part of Operation Bahamas, Turks and Caicos (OPBAT).

HMBS <i>Nassau</i> (P-61)

HMBS Nassau (P-61) is one of two patrol boats, with HMBS Bahamas (P-60), operated by the Bahamian military. Like her sister ship, Nassau is armed with several heavy Browning M2 .50 caliber machine guns and a light auto cannon. She is commonly used for capturing illegal immigrants, anti-piracy and smuggling missions, hurricane relief, search and rescue, routine patrols, and assisting maritime police.

Damen Stan Patrol 4207

The Dutch shipbuilding firm The Damen Group, designs and manufactures a range of patrol vessels, of various sizes, including the Damen Stan 4207 Patrol Vessels. The Damen Stan patrol vessel designs' names include a four digit code, where the first two digits are the vessel's length, in metres, and the second two digits are its width.

The Damen Stan Patrol 3007 is a patrol vessel in The Damen Group's family of Damen Stan Patrol vessels. The base design is built around an axe bow, and shallow draft.

HMBS Lawrence Major is a support vessel operated by the Royal Bahamas Defence Force. She was built in the Netherlands by The Damen Group, to an adaptation to its Damen Stan Lander 5612 design.

HMBS Lignum Vitae is the first of four Damen Stan 3007 patrol vessels commissioned by the Royal Bahamas Defence Force. She was projected to be ready for delivery to the Bahamas in June 2015.

They were built in one of Damen's shipyards in Cuba. Her sister ships are the AB Los Frailes, AB Los Testigos, and AB Los Monjes.

<i>Iliria</i>-class patrol vessel Albanian Coast Guard class

Iliria-class patrol vessels is an Albanian Coast Guard class of patrol vessels, that is based on the Damen Stan 4207 patrol vessel design. The first ship of this class Iliria, from which the class takes its name, was produced in Gorinchem, Netherlands by Damen Group and was commissioned in 2008. The other three vessels were built locally starting from 2009 to 2014 in Albania by the state-owned Pashaliman Shipyard. Over a dozen navies, coast guards and other government agencies operate vessels based on this design. While some of those vessels are equipped for purely civilian patrols, the Albanian ships are armed with a remote-controlled 20mm Nexter M621 NARWHAL cannon.
