With an enrollment of 432 students, it is classified as a Class C school by the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA). The school's mascot is the Pirates, and athletic teams compete in the Cascades Conference with Addison, East Jackson, Hanover-Horton, Grass Lake, Michigan Center, Manchester, and Vandercook Lake. Napoleon High School services students from Napoleon and Norvell Townships, as well as outlying areas of Columbia and Grass Lake Townships as a part of Napoleon Community Schools.

Watkins Lake State Park and County Preserve Michigan state park

Watkins Lake State Park and County Preserve is a combination public recreation area and nature preserve located five miles west of Manchester in Jackson and Washtenaw counties, Michigan. The area occupies a total of 1,122 acres (454 ha), with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources owning 717 acres (290 ha) in Norvell Township, Jackson County, and Washtenaw County owning 405 acres (164 ha) in Manchester Township. Dedicated in 2017, it is under the joint management of the Michigan DNR and the Washtenaw County Parks & Recreation Commission. A five-mile former rail corridor runs through the park and into grasslands in the eastern portion of the preserve.

Julie Alexander is a current member of the Michigan House of Representatives from the 64th District. The 64th District comprises the City of Jackson, along with the townships of Concord, Hanover, Napoleon, Pulaski, Sandstone, Spring Arbor and Summit. Before serving as a representative, Alexander served as a middle school teacher for nine years and an adult education teacher for thirteen years. Alexander and her husband currently operate a third-generation farm in Hanover, Michigan. Alexander also served three terms on the Jackson County Board of Commissioners.
