Charles Leonard Gehringer, nicknamed "the Mechanical Man", was an American professional baseball second baseman. He played for the Detroit Tigers for 19 seasons from 1924 to 1942. Harper played 1073 major league games and had a career .303 batting average with 91 home runs and 530 RBI. After his major league career ended, Harper returned to the minor leagues, where he played and managed for several more seasons.
