Hoàn Lão is the capital of Bố Trạch District, situated via north-eastern Quảng Bình, is located about 13 km north of Đồng Hới. [1]

Bố Trạch is a rural district in Quảng Bình Province. The district capital is Hoàn Lão township. Bố Trạch borders the capital city of Đồng Hới to the south-east and Tuyên Hóa District and Quảng Trạch District to the north, Quảng Ninh District to the south and Minh Hóa District to the north-west. Bố Trạch is home to Phong Nha-Kẻ Bàng National Park and has 30 communes and townships. As of 2006 the district had a population of 402,756. The district covers 2,123 square kilometres (820 sq mi).

The province has an area of 8,065.8 square kilometers and population of 857,818 inhabitants The province is bordered by the Laotian Khammouane Province to the west, the North Pacific Ocean to the east, Hà Tĩnh Province to the north and Quảng Trị Province to the south. Historically, this region belonged to Văn Lang and later the kingdom of Champa. Later it was claimed by both the Đại Việt and Champa and officially annexed into Đại Việt by Lý Thường Kiệt, a Lý Dynasty general.

Đồng Hới is the capital city of Quảng Bình Province in the north central coast of Vietnam. The city's area is 155.71 km2 (60.12 sq mi). Population as per the 2013 census was 160,000. It is served by National Highway 1A, the Đồng Hới Railway Station, and airport. By road, Đồng Hới is 486 kilometres (302 mi) south of Hanoi, 195 kilometres (121 mi) south of Vinh, 160 kilometres (99 mi) north of Huế and 1,204 kilometres (748 mi) north of Hồ Chí Minh City. It borders Quảng Ninh District on the west and south, the South China Sea on the east, Bố Trạch District on the north.

The township (thị trấn) is located about 30 km east of Phong Nha-Kẻ Bàng National Park a UNESCO Heritage Site. Hoàn Lão covers 5,70 km² and had a population of 7,372 in 2012.

Phong Nha-Kẻ Bàng is a national park and UNESCO World Heritage Site in the Bố Trạch and Minh Hóa districts of central Quảng Bình Province in the North Central Coast region of Vietnam, about 500 km south of Hanoi. The park borders the Hin Namno Nature Reserve in Khammouane Province, Laos to the west and 42 km east of the South China Sea from its borderline point. Phong Nha–Kẻ Bàng National Park is situated in a limestone zone of 2,000 km2 in Vietnamese territory and borders another limestone zone of 2,000 km2 of Hin Namno in Laotian territory. The core zone of this national park covers 857.54 km2 and a buffer zone of 1,954 km2.

Nhật Lệ Beach is a beach in Đồng Hới city, the capital of Quảng Bình Province, home to World Heritage Site Phong Nha-Kẻ Bàng National Park. The sand here is fine and white with clean water. The beach is located on the mouth of the Nhật Lệ River emptying into the South China Sea. There is a four-star resort at the opposite bank of the river and another under construction.

Đá Nhảy Beach is a beautiful beach on the shore of the East Sea, 40 km north of Đồng Hới city, Quảng Bình Province, Vietnam. Đá Nhảy in Vietnamese means "the rocks that jump", referring to the topographical feature of this beach which sees thousands rock reaching the sea, surrounding small fine sand beaches suitable for sea bathing. This is one of the most important attraction sites in Quảng Bình, along with Phong Nha-Kẻ Bàng National Park (a UNESCO World Heritage Site and Bang Spa.

Quảng Ninh borders Đồng Hới to the north, Bố Trạch to the northwest, Lệ Thủy District to the south and South China Sea to the east.
