Scissor Sisters is an American pop/rock band formed in 2001. Forged in the "gay nightlife scene of New York," the band took its name from the female same-sex sexual activity tribadism. Its members include Jake Shears and Ana Matronic as vocalists, Babydaddy as multi-instrumentalist, Del Marquis as lead guitar/bassist, and Randy Real as drummer. Scissor Sisters incorporates diverse and eclectic styles in their music, but tends to sway towards pop rock, glam rock, nu-disco, and electroclash.

Signed to Columbia Records as a teenager, Geiger's debut album, Underage Thinking, released in 2006, sold more than 360,000 copies and spawned two singles, "For You I Will (Confidence)" and "These Walls." While Geiger's follow-up work didn't enjoy the same level of success as Underage Thinking did, she continued to play an active role in the music industry, composing songs for other artists such as "Bartender" by James Blunt (2017), "Mercy" by Shawn Mendes (2016), and "Emergency" by Icona Pop (2015).

Like her previous three albums, it was a concept album, this time seeing Summer combining the recent disco sound with various sounds of the past. I Remember Yesterday includes the singles "Can't We Just Sit Down ", "I Feel Love", the title track, "Love's Unkind" and "Back in Love Again". "I Feel Love" and "Love's Unkind" proved to be the album's most popular and enduring hits, the former of which came to be one of Summer's signature songs.
