The Institute of Engineering Technology (IET) (Sinhala : ඉංජිනේරු තාක්ෂණ ආයතනය, Tamil : எந்திரவியல் தொழில்நுட்ப நிறுவனம்) is a diploma-awarding institute in Katunayake, Sri Lanka, specializing in the field of engineering. IET awards the National Diploma in Engineering Sciences (NDES), and was established as the Technician Training Institute (TTI) in 1985 to educate and train mid-level engineers in various engineering-based and allied fields.



IET awards the National Diploma in Engineering Sciences under the three major fields [1] of civil engineering, electrical engineering and mechanical engineering, and eight sub-fields.

The institute is situated near the Bandaranaike International Airport, Katunayake at 18th Milepost on Colombo Negombo Road. The distance is around 30 km from Colombo and it takes around 45–60 minutes to reach the institute via main road or from Colombo-Katunayake Expressway it can reach around 15 minuts.

Thapathali Campus

Thapathali Campus also known as Thapathali Engineering Campus is one of the five constituent engineering campuses of Institute of Engineering (IOE), which is an independent institution for engineering studies of Tribhuvan University (TU). It is located at the center of Kathmandu city, was established in 2023 B.S. to develop middle level manpower in the field mechanical and automobile engineering which upgraded its programs to bachelor and master level along the course of time.

Sri Lanka Institute of Advanced Technological Education

The Sri Lanka Institute of Advanced Technological Education is a statutory body in Sri Lanka coming under the purview of the Higher Education Ministry and offering Higher National Diploma courses. At present, it manages and supervises eighteen provincial Advanced Technological Institutes throughout the island. The Institute is traditionally known for its education in the accountancy and engineering. As per the recommendations of the Committee appointed by Prof. Wiswa Waranapala, Deputy Minister of Higher Education in 1994, the Sri Lanka Institute of Advanced Technical Education (SLIATE) was formed in 1995, under the Sri Lanka Institute of Advanced Technical Education Act No. 29 of 1995.
