Portland is the largest and most populous city in the U.S. state of Oregon and the seat of Multnomah County. It is a major port in the Willamette Valley region of the Pacific Northwest, at the confluence of the Willamette and Columbia rivers. As of 2019, Portland had an estimated population of 654,741, making it the 26th most populated city in the United States and the second-most populous in the Pacific Northwest after Seattle. Approximately 2.4 million people live in the Portland metropolitan statistical area (MSA), making it the 25th most populous in the United States. Its combined statistical area (CSA) ranks 19th-largest with a population of around 3.2 million. Approximately 60% of Oregon's population resides within the Portland metropolitan area.
Hillsboro is the fifth-largest city in the U.S. state of Oregon and is the county seat of Washington County. Lying in the Tualatin Valley on the west side of the Portland metropolitan area, the city hosts many high-technology companies, such as Intel, that comprise what has become known as the Silicon Forest. Opened 21 years ago in 1999 and owned by the city of Hillsboro, the award-winning stadium is part of the Gordon Faber Recreation Complex located in the northeast part of the city, adjacent to the Sunset Highway.
Washington High School was a high school in Portland, Oregon, United States, from 1906 to 1981. After fire destroyed the original building, a new building was completed in 1924. The school merged with Monroe High School in 1978 to become Washington-Monroe High School. The school closed shortly after in 1981, and the building was vacant for many years. In October 2013, plans to renovate the building for commercial use were advancing, with a mix of retail and office use planned. New Seasons Market relocated its offices to the building in 2015 and is the largest tenant. The former auditorium was repurposed as a music venue called Revolution Hall, which opened in February 2015. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in November 2015.

The school uses two buildings located on the north and west edges of Grant Park, as well as a third building in Rose City Park. Beverly Cleary feeds to Grant High School.

It is an arts focus school in the Portland Public School District. The building was originally used as a high school, Girls Polytechnic High School, which was renamed James Monroe High School in 1967 and closed in fall 1978, when its student body was merged with, and moved to, Washington High School.
