James Caldwell (born May 16, 1943) is a Northern Irish mathematician.
Caldwell was educated at Macosquin Primary School, then Coleraine Academical Institution followed by Queen's University of Belfast; Professor James Caldwell obtained his BSc (1st Class Hons.) degree in applied mathematics and his MSc degree in numerical analysis from Queen's University Belfast in 1964 and 1966, respectively. In 1974 he was awarded his PhD degree in "Magnetostatic Field Calculations", under Dennis Gibson, from Teesside University. [1]
Professor Caldwell was awarded his first higher doctorate (DSc) degree by Queen's University of Belfast in 1985 for his research and scholarly work on "Mathematical Solution of Physical Problems Particularly Involving Magnetostatic Fields" and his second DSc by Teesside University in 2007 in recognition of his research and scholarly work in Mathematical Modelling. He took up various teaching posts in the UK before moving to Australia as Head of Mathematics at the University of Southern Queensland in Toowoomba. He then returned to England to lecture at Sunderland University and worked in lecturing and research posts at a number of UK universities. In 1990 he joined the City University of Hong Kong Department of Mathematics. [3]
Similar with his academic career, Professor Caldwell worked for a number of large organizations including the role as Head of Modelling with Unilever Research UK. Through his research work, he has published hundreds of journal research papers and conference papers, and more than a dozen textbooks and theses. As a result of scientific publications, he has had extensive experience in editorial work involving mathematics. Furthermore, he has had extensive experience of course development work in mMathematics at a number of universities in the UK and overseas. On retirement he continued at City University of Hong Kong up to 2010 and was adjunct professor in the Department of Mathematics until 2012. More recently he has formed strong links with the Open University of Hong Kong. [4]
Although now retired in Bedfordshire in the UK he still continues with his research in applied mathematics, writing of mathematics textbooks and journal editorial work.
Professor Caldwell, has had extensive experience of mathematical modelling throughout his career in both university teaching and industry and was instructor for a team of three Hong Kong mathematics undergraduate students, who won the first place award, Meritorious, in the 2000 Netease Cup China Undergraduate Mathematical Contest in Modelling (CUMCM). Caldwell has authored a number of postgraduate textbooks in mathematical modeling and edited a number of annual conference proceedings linked to POLYMODEL (i.e. North East Polytechnics Mathematical Modelling & Computer Simulation Group). [6]
Professor Caldwell has been invited by the Open University of Hong Kong (OUHK) to take on the role of Honorary Professor (Mathematics & Statistics) for the period 2013–2019.
Also Professor Caldwell has been awarded Honorary Doctorate in Professional Achievement by Teesside University in 2014. [7] [8]

TSUI Ming-sum is Professor and Felizberta Lo Padilla Tong former Dean of Social Sciences, Caritas Institute of Higher Education (CIHE), Hong Kong. He is also adjunct/honorary professor of seven other universities. Before joining CIHE, he was Professor of Social Work and Associate Dean, Faculty of Health and Social Sciences, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Ming-sum has 40 years of experience in practising, researching, and teaching social work practice. Before joining the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, he was Service Supervisor of Development and Health Services of Hong Kong Christian Service. Ming-sum has set up the first community-based family service centre, the first counselling centre for psychotropic substance abusers and the first employee assistance program in Hong Kong. He also supervised the Hong Kong Eye Bank Clinic and coordinated the program development, fund raising, service evaluation, and staff development of Hong Kong Christian Service in the 1980s.

Howell Tong is a statistician who has made fundamental contributions to nonlinear time series analysis, semi-parametric statistics, non-parametric statistics, dimension reduction, model selection, likelihood-free statistics and other areas. In the words of Professor Peter Whittle (FRS): "The striking feature of Howell Tong's … is the continuing freshness, boldness and spirit of enquiry which inform them-indeed, proper qualities for an explorer. He stands as the recognised innovator and authority in his subject, while remaining disarmingly direct and enthusiastic." His work, in the words of Sir David Cox, "links two fascinating fields, nonlinear time series and deterministic dynamical systems." He is the father of the threshold time series models, which have extensive applications in ecology, economics, epidemiology and finance. Besides nonlinear time series analysis, he was the co-author of a seminal paper, which he read to the Royal Statistical Society, on dimension reduction in semi-parametric statistics by pioneering the approach based on minimum average variance estimation. He has also made numerous novel contributions to nonparametric statistics, Markov chain modelling, reliability, non-stationary time series analysis and wavelets.

Guanrong Chen (陈关荣) or Ron Chen is a Chinese mathematician who made contributions to Chaos theory. He has been the chair professor and the founding director of the Centre for Chaos and Complex Networks at the City University of Hong Kong since 2000. Prior to that, he was a tenured full professor at the University of Houston, Texas. Chen was elected Member of the Academy of Europe in 2014, elected Fellow of The World Academy of Sciences in 2015, and elected IEEE Fellow in 1997. He is currently the editor-in-chief for the International Journal of Bifurcation and Chaos.
Harold Vincent Poor FRS FREng is the Michael Henry Strater University Professor of Electrical Engineering at Princeton University, where he is also the Interim Dean of the School of Engineering and Applied Science. He is a specialist in wireless telecommunications, signal processing and information theory. He has received many honorary degrees and election to national academies. He was also President of IEEE Information Theory Society (1990). He is on the board of directors of the IEEE Foundation.
Po Leung Kuk Vicwood K. T. Chong Sixth Form College (KTC) is a government-subsidised sixth form college in Yau Tsim Mong District, Kowloon, Hong Kong. Lakshman 'Sam' Samaranayake is a Sri Lankan clinical academic with expertise in diagnostic clinical microbiology and research, senior executive level administration, and dental pedagogy and is best known for his work with Candidiasis. After serving as a Consultant Clinical Microbiologist in Glasgow, UK he joined the academia. Since then, working in five different trans-continental universities, he has authored over 450 scientific communications, cited over 27,000 occasions ). Subsequently, he served over 12 years as the Executive Dean of two major dental schools in Hong Kong, and Australia at the University of Hong Kong and University of Queensland, respectively. He has received numerous accolades for his contributions to dentistry, including the King James IV Professorship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, UK, and the Distinguished Scientist Award of IADR, USA. He holds many visiting/honorary professor appointments in the universities of Thailand, Australia, Indonesia, the UK, the Middle East, and China.
