Jeremy Storey, QC, is the current Judge of Appeal in the Isle of Man. He is a graduate of Cambridge University and has been a QC since 1994 and a Deputy High Court Judge in England and Wales since 2008. He was appointed Judge of Appeal for the Isle of Man in October 2017. [1]

Queens Counsel jurist appointed by letters patent

A Queen's Counsel, or King's Counsel during the reign of a king, is an eminent lawyer who is appointed by the monarch to be one of "Her Majesty's Counsel learned in the law." The term is recognised as an honorific. The position exists in some Commonwealth jurisdictions around the world, but other Commonwealth countries have either abolished the position, or re-named it to eliminate monarchical connotations, such as "Senior Counsel" or "Senior Advocate". Queen's Counsel is an office, conferred by the Crown, that is recognised by courts. Members have the privilege of sitting within the bar of court.

Judge of Appeal

The Judge of Appeal is a part-time judge in the Isle of Man High Court who only sits in the Staff of Government Division, the appeal court.

Isle of Man British Crown dependency

The Isle of Man, sometimes referred to simply as Mann, is a self-governing British Crown dependency in the Irish Sea between Great Britain and Ireland. The head of state is Queen Elizabeth II, who holds the title of Lord of Mann and is represented by a lieutenant governor. Defence is the responsibility of the United Kingdom.

Deemster

A deemster is a judge in the Isle of Man. The High Court of Justice of the Isle of Man is presided over by a deemster or, in the case of the appeal division of that court, a deemster and the Judge of Appeal. The deemsters also promulgate the Laws on Tynwald Day by reading out brief summaries of them in English and Manx.

Attorney General (Isle of Man) of the Isle of Man

The Attorney General of the Isle of Man is the Government's top legal adviser and has an ex officio (non-voting) seat in the Legislative Council.

Judiciary of the Isle of Man

The lowest courts in the Isle of Man are the summary courts, Coroner of Inquests, Licensing Court, Land Court, etc. These courts are presided over by magistrates. There are two stipendiary magistrates, the High Bailiff and the Deputy High Bailiff, along with lay justices of the peace.

Geoffrey Tattersall British judge

Geoffrey Tattersall, QC, is a former Judge of Appeal in the Isle of Man. He is also a member of the Byrom Street Chambers, Manchester and 22 Old Buildings, London. He was educated at Manchester Grammar School and Christ Church Oxford and called to Lincoln's Inn in 1970. He was appointed a Queen's Counsel in 1992 and a Deputy High Court Judge in England in 2003. He is also the Vicar General of the Diocese of Sodor and Man.

High Court of Justice (Isle of Man)

The High Court of Justice of the Isle of Man is governed by the High Court Act 1991. There are four permanent judges of the High Court:

John Louie Marie Quinn QC is the Attorney General of the Isle of Man. He was appointed to that office in 2017, having filled the role in an acting capacity since 2013. In 2013 he was also appointed as a member of the Legislative Council of the Isle of Man. He was born in 1954, educated in Lancashire and Cheshire, and is married with seven children.
