Jerry D. Porter (born c. 1949 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma) is a minister and general superintendent emeritus in the Church of the Nazarene.

General Superintendent is the highest elected office within the Church of the Nazarene. General Superintendents are elected by the General Assembly of the denomination for a four-year term to expire at the end of the next General Assembly.

Church of the Nazarene evangelical Christian denomination

The Church of the Nazarene is an evangelical Christian denomination that emerged from the 19th-century Holiness movement in North America. With its members commonly referred to as Nazarenes, it is the largest Wesleyan-holiness denomination in the world.

Education

Porter graduated from Bethany Nazarene College in 1971 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in religion. In the summer of 1972 he received a Master of Arts in theology degree.

Ministry

Porter's first pastorate was in Angleton, Texas and he was ordained in 1974 on the Houston District Church of the Nazarene by General Superintendent Charles H. Strickland. After two and a half years in Angleton Porter was appointed to be a missionary to the Dominican Republic to start the Nazarene work in that country. He was next assigned to San José, Costa Rica, where he was rector of the Nazarene Seminary of the Americas.

Porter was elected by the General Board of the Church of the Nazarene to be the regional director for the Church of the Nazarene in the Mexico/Central America Region in 1986, which includes eight nations from Panama to Mexico.

In 1992, while his daughter Amy was receiving treatment for cancer in Dallas, Texas, he was elected by the Mid-Atlantic District to be the third district superintendent. During this time he also served on the Board of Trustees of Eastern Nazarene College and Nazarene Theological Seminary.

Eastern Nazarene College

The Eastern Nazarene College (ENC) is a private, Christian, college of the liberal arts and sciences in Quincy, Massachusetts. It is known for its liberal arts core curriculum and its science and religion education. Its academic programs are primarily undergraduate, with some professional graduate education offered.

Nazarene Theological Seminary (NTS) is a Nazarene seminary in Kansas City, Missouri. The seminary was established by the Eleventh General Assembly in June 1944 and started its first school year in 1945 with 61 students. It moved to its current location in 1950. The seminary offers Master's degrees in Divinity, Christian Education, Intercultural Studies, and Theological Studies as well as a Doctor of Ministry degree and non-degree programs.

Porter was elected to be General Superintendent at the 24th General Assembly of the Church of the Nazarene in San Antonio, Texas, in June 1997.

Leontine Turpeau Current Kelly was an American bishop of the United Methodist Church. She was born in Washington, D.C., one of eight children. Her father, David D. Turpeau Sr., was a prominent Methodist minister, who later served four terms in the Ohio House of Representatives. For a period of time she also served simultaneously as a pastor and a District Superintendent. Her mother, Ila Marshall Turpeau, was an outspoken advocate for women and Blacks and a founder of the Urban League of Cincinnati, Ohio. Kelly died on June 28, 2012 in Oakland, California.

John Wesley Hardt American bishop

John Wesley Hardt was an American Bishop of the United Methodist Church, elected in 1980. He also distinguished himself as a Preacher and a Pastor of Methodist Churches, as a District Superintendent, and as an author and biographer.

Robert Eric Hayes Jr. is an American bishop of the United Methodist Church (U.M.C.), currently serving in the Oklahoma Annual Conference. Before being elected to the episcopacy in 2004, Hayes served as treasurer of the Texas Annual Conference. He has served as a pastor, district superintendent, and college chaplain.

Asia-Pacific Nazarene Theological Seminary (APNTS) is a graduate-level theological institution located near Metro Manila in the Philippines. APNTS is a seminary in the Wesleyan theological tradition and affiliated with the Church of the Nazarene through its Division of World Mission. Its mission is to prepare "men and women for Christ-like leadership and excellence in ministries." David Busic Nazarene general superintendent

David Busic is an ordained minister and 40th general superintendent of the Church of the Nazarene, the denomination's highest elected office. He was elected on June 25, 2013, at the 28th General Assembly and Conventions in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Carla D. Sunberg is an American ordained minister in the Church of the Nazarene, administrator, academic, author, speaker and former missionary and registered nurse, who is the 2nd woman elected as a General Superintendent in the Church of the Nazarene, and was the first woman and the 10th person elected as president of Nazarene Theological Seminary (NTS). At the time of her election on January 3, 2014, Sunberg was co-District Superintendent of the East Ohio District of the Church of the Nazarene, having served in this role since November 1, 2011. Dr Sunberg was elected the 43rd General Superintendent in the Church of the Nazarene on the 11th ballot by the delegates of the 29th General Assembly of the Church of the Nazarene on June 27, 2017. Sunberg is the only daughter of Jerald Johnson, the 24th General Superintendent of the Church of the Nazarene.

David W. Graves is an American educator and theologian who serves as a General Superintendent in the Church of the Nazarene.
