James Albert Brailey (1919-1981) was an Australian rugby league footballer who played in the 1940s.
Brailey was born in Marrickville, New South Wales on 10 October 1919.
Brailey came through the Newtown junior ranks to become a first grade player for Newtown as a hooker. He played seven seasons with Newtown between 1940–1947.
Brailey won a premiership with the club in 1943 and was a member of the team that were runners up in 1944. He was a part of a formidable forward pack which included legendary players including Frank Farrell, Gordon MacLennan, Chicka Cahill and Herb Narvo. [1]
Brailey died on 14 January 1981, aged 61. [2]
The Newtown Jets are an Australian rugby league football club based in Newtown, a suburb of Sydney's inner west. Sigsworth attended Newtown Boys' Junior High School where he played Rugby Union for the school. Andrew William Farnsworth was an Australian pioneer rugby league footballer who played in the 1910s whose club career was played in Sydney with Newtown. He represented at state level for both New South Wales and Queensland, and at the national level for Australia and Australasia. He is the brother of fellow New South Wales and Australian representative, and Newtown player Viv Farnsworth.
Sid Goodwin (1914–1980) was an Australian rugby league footballer who played in the 1930s and 1940s. He played on the wing for the Balmain and Newtown clubs in the New South Wales Rugby Football League premiership and also represented New South Wales and Australia. Goodwin played 11 seasons for the Balmain club between 1933–1942 then moved to the Newtown club for 3 seasons between 1943–1945. He was selected to play for New South Wales in 1938, 1939, 1940 and 1944.
Tom Kirk (1916–1994) was an Australian professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1930s and 1940s. A New South Wales state representative goal-kicking fullback, he played in Sydney's NSWRFL for the Canterbury-Bankstown and Newtown clubs as well as with North Sydney. He was the first player to become the season's top point scorer on 5 occasions: 1938, 1940, 1943, 1944, 1946. In 1947 he became the first player to score 1,000 career points in the NSWRFL.
Arthur Fitzgerald Folwell was a British-born Australian professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s, coached in the 1940s, and was an administrator in the mid-20th century. An Australia national and New South Wales state representative hooker, he played his club football in the New South Wales Rugby Football League for Sydney's Newtown before becoming their coach and taking them to the 1943 NSWRFL premiership.
The City Newton Dragons are a defunct New Zealand rugby league club that was based at Victoria Park, Auckland. The club was created in 1948 by a merger of two original clubs, the City Rovers and Newton Rangers. Both the Rovers and the Rangers participated in the inaugural Auckland Rugby League competition in 1910. In 2004, the club was absorbed by the Ponsonby Ponies, who play a match in the City Newton colours annually to keep the heritage of the club alive.
