Jing Wenchun (Chinese :景文春; born May 1949) is a retired lieutenant general ( zhong jiang ) of the People's Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) of China. He served as Deputy Commander of the PLAAF and Commander of the Beijing Military Region Air Force.

Simplified Chinese characters standardized Chinese characters developed in mainland China

Simplified Chinese characters are standardized Chinese characters prescribed in the Table of General Standard Chinese Characters for use in mainland China. Along with traditional Chinese characters, they are one of the two standard character sets of the contemporary Chinese written language. The government of the People's Republic of China in mainland China has promoted them for use in printing since the 1950s and 1960s to encourage literacy. They are officially used in the People's Republic of China and Singapore.

Peoples Liberation Army Air Force Air warfare branch of Chinas military

The People's Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) is the aerial warfare service branch of the People's Liberation Army, the armed forces of the People's Republic of China. The PLAAF was officially established on 11 November 1949. As of 2014, the PLAAF has a strength of around 398,000 personnel and is the largest air force in Asia.

Beijing Military Region Former military region of China

The Beijing Military Region was one of seven military regions for the Chinese People's Liberation Army. From the mid 1980s to 2017, it had administration of all military affairs within Beijing city, Tianjin city, Hebei province, Shanxi province, and Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. The Region is mainly responsible for defending the People's Republic of China from Mongolia and Russia, and also protects the capital of China, and had the largest number of military personnel of any of the seven regions active from 1985-2017. The Region has now been disbanded and superseded by the Central Theater Command.

Biography

Jing Wenchun was born in May 1949 in Harbin, Heilongjiang Province. He entered PLAAF No. 7 Aviation School in 1965, and joined the air force as a fighter pilot upon his graduation in 1968. [1]

Harbin is the capital of Heilongjiang province, and largest city in the northeastern region of the People's Republic of China. Holding sub-provincial administrative status, Harbin has direct jurisdiction over nine metropolitan districts, two county-level cities and seven counties. Harbin is the eighth most populous Chinese city according to the 2010 census, the built-up area had 5,282,093 inhabitants, while the total population of the sub-provincial city was up to 10,635,971. Harbin serves as a key political, economic, scientific, cultural, and communications hub in Northeast China, as well as an important industrial base of the nation.

Heilongjiang Province

Heilongjiang is a province of the People's Republic of China. Located in the most northeastern part of the country, Heilongjiang is bordered by Jilin to the south and Inner Mongolia to the west. It also shares a border with Russia to the north and east. The capital and the largest city of the province is Harbin. Among Chinese provincial-level administrative divisions, Heilongjiang is the sixth-largest by total area and the 15th-most populous.

He became a regiment commander in the Beijing Military Region Air Force (Beijing MRAF) in 1980, and later rose to commander of the 17th division of the Beijing MRAF. He then served as deputy commander and commander of Kunming Air Base in the 1990s. He attained the rank of major general in 1995. [1]

Jing served as commander of the 10th Corps (1998), deputy commander of the Beijing MR and commander of the Beijing MRAF (2002–2006) before becoming deputy commander of the PLAAF in August 2006. As one of several deputy commanders, he is in charge of the departments of supporting arms in the Headquarters (electronic warfare, radar and communications, education institutions, and key weapons projects). [2] He was promoted to the rank of lieutenant general in July 2006. [1]

Jing retired from active service in July 2012, after reaching the mandatory retirement age of 63 for deputy military region (DMR)-level commanders. He was replaced by Zhou Laiqiang. [3]

Zhou Laiqiang is a retired lieutenant general of the People's Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) of China. He served as Commander of the Shenyang Military Region Air Force and concurrently Deputy Commander of the Shenyang MR from 2004 to 2012. He was appointed Deputy Commander of the PLAAF in July 2012, replacing Jing Wenchun who had reached the mandatory retirement age. He is a native of Huai'an, Jiangsu Province.
