Joe Howard (born November 24, 1948) is an American actor known for his role as George Frankly on Square One TV's Mathnet . Beyond seven years as George Frankly, a role for which he beat out Phil Hartman, he has a long career as a character actor.He is otherwise best known for his roles in Grumpy Old Men and The World's Fastest Indian . Howard has also had a long career on stage. He is the father of actor Jeremy Howard.

Philip Edward Hartmann, better known as Phil Hartman, was a Canadian-American actor, comedian, screenwriter and graphic artist. Born in Brantford, Ontario, Hartman and his family moved to the United States in 1958. After graduating from California State University, Northridge, with a degree in graphic arts, he designed album covers for bands like Poco and America. Hartman joined the comedy group The Groundlings in 1975 and there helped comedian Paul Reubens develop his character Pee-wee Herman. Hartman co-wrote the screenplay for the film Pee-wee's Big Adventure and made recurring appearances as Captain Carl on Reubens' show Pee-wee's Playhouse.
Grumpy Old Men is a 1993 American romantic comedy film starring Jack Lemmon, Walter Matthau and Ann-Margret, with Burgess Meredith, Daryl Hannah, Kevin Pollak, Ossie Davis and Buck Henry. Directed by Donald Petrie, the screenplay was written by Mark Steven Johnson, who also wrote the sequel, Grumpier Old Men (1995).
