John Frederick Flowers (born 14 January 1954), an Australian politician, was a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly representing Rockdale for the Liberal Party from 2011 to 2015. [1]
Flowers was a teacher at Belmore Boys' High School for over 20 years. He served as a Councillor on Kogarah Council between 1999 until 2004, and then Rockdale Council since 2004, where he served as Deputy Mayor and then Mayor.
In 2011, Flowers contested the normally safe [2] Labor seat of Rockdale in the St George-Kogarah district. He was elected with 53.6 per cent of the two-party vote. [3] Flowers' main opponent was Steve Kamper, representing Labor. Frank Sartor who was the previous Labor sitting member had earlier announced his retirement from politics after holding the seat for 8 years. [3]

The City of Rockdale was a local government area in southern and St George regions of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. The city centre was located 12 kilometres (7.5 mi) south of the Sydney central business district, on the western shores of Botany Bay. First proclaimed on 13 January 1871, Rockdale was formerly known as the Municipality of West Botany until 1887 and the Municipality of Rockdale before being proclaimed as a City in 1995. Rockdale was amalgamated with the neighbouring City of Botany Bay on 9 September 2016 to form the new municipality of Bayside Council.

Francesco Ernest "Frank" Sartor AO a former Australian politician, was New South Wales Minister for Climate Change and the Environment and Minister Assisting the Minister for Health (Cancer) between 2009 and 2011. He was a Member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly representing Rockdale for the Labor Party between 2003 and 2011. Sartor has previously been Minister for Planning, Redfern Waterloo and the Arts, and Minister for Water and Utilities in the Iemma and Carr governments. Before being elected to the New South Wales Parliament, Sartor is the second longest-serving Lord Mayor of Sydney after Clover Moore, having held the post for nearly 12 years from September 1991 to March 2003. Sartor retired from politics at the 2011 state election.
Brian Joseph Langton is a former Australian Labor Party politician, who served both as mayor of Kogarah in the St George area of Sydney and as the member for Kogarah in the New South Wales Legislative Assembly. In 1998 Langton was found by the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) to have been involved in corruption, having deceptively lodged travel allowances.
Brian Joseph Bannon was an Australian politician. He was the Labor member for Rockdale in the New South Wales Legislative Assembly from 1959 to 1986. He died in Sydney on 6 October 2017.

Bayside Council is a local government area located around Botany Bay which is split between the eastern suburbs and St George areas of Sydney, located between 7 kilometres (4.3 mi) and 12 kilometres (7.5 mi) south of the CBD in the state of New South Wales, Australia. The Council was formed on 9 September 2016 from the merger of the two Councils of the City of Botany Bay and the City of Rockdale.
