John Murphy (born 26 August 1937) was a member of the House of Commons of Canada from 1993 to 1997.
Born in Halifax,Nova Scotia,Murphy became a Liberal party candidate for the Annapolis Valley—Hants electoral district in the 1988 federal election. He lost to Progressive Conservative candidate Pat Nowlan.
His second attempt for the riding succeeded in 1993 as he defeated incumbent Nowlan (now an independent) and new Progressive Conservative candidate Jim White. [2] In the 1997 federal election,Murphy would campaign in the riding now restructured as Kings—Hants,only to be defeated by Progressive Conservative candidate Scott Brison. [3] Murphy has not attempted to return to Parliament since his term in the 35th Canadian Parliament.

Scott A. Brison is a Canadian former politician from Nova Scotia. Brison served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for the riding of Kings-Hants from the 1997 federal election until July 2000,then from November 2000 to February 2019. He was the first openly gay MP to sit as a member of the Progressive Conservative Party. In 2003,just days after the Progressive Conservatives and the more socially conservative Canadian Alliance voted to merge into the Conservative Party of Canada,Brison crossed the floor to join the Liberal Party.

William D. Casey is a Canadian politician from Nova Scotia who served as a Member of Parliament (MP) in the House of Commons of Canada. First elected as a Progressive Conservative in 1988,he later sat as Conservative MP following the party merger in 2003. In 2007,Casey was expelled from the party for voting against the 2007 budget,but he was reelected as an Independent in the 2008 election and sat as such until he resigned his seat in 2009 to work on behalf of the Nova Scotian government for provincial interests in Ottawa. Casey decided to return to federal politics in the 2015 federal election and running as a Liberal easily took the seat with 63.73% of the popular vote.

The 2003 Progressive Conservative leadership election was held on May 31,2003,to elect a leader of the Progressive Conservative Party of Canada. Peter MacKay was elected as leader to replace former Prime Minister Joe Clark,who then retired as party leader. In the end,five candidates emerged as challengers for the leadership by the convention date. Two other candidates had participated in the race but both withdrew as contestants before the vote. Quebec Member of Parliament (MP) AndréBachand withdrew his candidacy from the race due to financial concerns and backed Peter MacKay. Former Cabinet Minister and Quebec MP Heward Grafftey also withdrew his candidacy from the race due to health concerns and backed David Orchard.
