Joint Consultants' Committee

The Joint Consultants' Committee, properly the Joint Medical Consultative Council, is a negotiating committee for NHS hospital doctors in the United Kingdom established in 1948. It represents the medical profession in discussions with the government on matters relating to the maintenance of standards of professional knowledge and skill in the hospital service and the encouragement of education and research. [1]

It is composed of 18 members representing the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges, 17 representing the British Medical Association, 2 representing the British Dental Association, 2 representing the Conference of Postgraduate Medical Deans and 1 representing the Medical Schools Council. The Chairman and the representatives of the Welsh and Northern Irish Sub-committees are Non-Aligned Members.

Academy of Medical Royal Colleges

The Academy of Medical Royal Colleges has a role to promote, facilitate and where appropriate co-ordinate the work of the Medical Royal Colleges and their Faculties for the benefit of patients and healthcare. The Academy comprises the 21 Medical Royal Colleges and Faculties in the United Kingdom and Ireland, with the Presidents of these organisations meeting regularly to agree direction.

The British Medical Association (BMA) is the professional association and registered trade union for doctors in the United Kingdom. The association does not regulate or certify doctors, a responsibility which lies with the General Medical Council. The association's headquarters are located in BMA House, Tavistock Square, London. Additionally, the association has national offices in Cardiff, Belfast, and Edinburgh, a European office in Brussels and a number of offices in English regions. The BMA has a range of representative and scientific committees and is recognised by National Health Service (NHS) employers as sole contract negotiators for doctors.

British Dental Association professional body for dentists in the United Kingdom

The British Dental Association (BDA) is the professional association and registered trade union organisation for dentists in the United Kingdom.

The composition has changed over time. In 1969 there were only 24 members in total. [2] Since 1975 it no longer negotiates remuneration or terms and conditions for staff employment, but discusses professional issues such as revalidation. [3]

Surinderjeet Singh Ahluwalia is an Indian politician of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and is its National Vice President. A Union Minister of State in the Government of India, he is the member of Parliament of India representing Darjeeling Lok Sabha constituency in West Bengal in the 16th Lok Sabha. John Michael Newsom-Davis was a neurologist who played an important role in the discovery of the causes of, and treatments for, Myasthenia gravis, and of other diseases of the nerve-muscle junction, notably Lambert-Eaton myasthenic syndrome and acquired neuromyotonia.
