1 July 2019 Kabul attack Terrorist attack in Kabul

On 1 July 2019, a combined gun and bomb attack took place in the Wazir Akbar Khan neighborhood of Kabul, Afghanistan. The attackers initially detonated a bomb-laden truck, after which five gunmen entered a nearby building under construction and fired on Afghan security personnel evacuating people onto the street. At least forty five were killed, including the five attackers. The spokesman for the Afghan Ministry of Public Health, Wahidullah Mayar, said that 116 civilians, including 26 children and 5 women, were wounded. The Taliban claimed the responsibility for the bomb attack in Kabul and said although civilians were not the Taliban target, some were injured.

A bomb exploded outside Kabul University on 19 July 2019, killing 8 people and injuring another 33.

Three bombings occurred in Kabul, Afghanistan, on 25 July 2019, killing at least 15 people. A magnetic bomb on a minibus, killing eight people and minutes later a suicide bomber killed seven people. The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant claimed responsibility for both attacks. Later that day, a car bomb exploded; the Taliban claimed responsibility for it.

Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant – Khorasan Province Branch of the Islamic State operating in Afghanistan and Pakistan

The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant – Khorasan Province, or ISIL-KP, is a branch of the militant Islamist group Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), active in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Some media sources also use the terms ISK, ISISK, IS-KP, or ISIS-K in referring to the group. The Khorasan group's area of operations also includes other parts of South Asia, such as India where individuals have pledged allegiance to it. However its main activity is in the border region of eastern Afghanistan and northern Pakistan.

On June 30, 2016, at least 40 people were killed and 50 people were wounded after two Taliban suicide bombers attacked police cadets returning from a graduation ceremony west of the capital city, Kabul. The attacks followed the Kabul attack on Canadian Embassy Guards and occurred during the Kunduz-Takhar highway hostage crisis. The attacks all occurred during the holy month of Ramadan.

July 2016 Kabul bombing twin bombings in Kabul, Afghanistan occurring on 23 July 2016

On 23 July 2016 a twin bombing occurred in the vicinity of Deh Mazang square in Kabul, capital of Afghanistan, when the #Enlightenment_Movement protesters, mostly from the Hazara ethnic, were marching against a decision to bypass their region in the development of the TUTAP mega power project. At least 97 people were killed and 260 injured. The terrorist group Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant has claimed responsibility, however, the same group later on refused it. Some Hazara protestors allege that Afghan president Ashraf Ghani was behind the attack. They believe that Ashraf Ghani government was abetting the terrorists who were responsible for the attack. They also allege that the government officials were preventing the wounded from being shifted to the hospital.

On 1 August 2016, a massive truck bomb exploded in Kabul, Afghanistan at about 1:30 a.m. and gunfire was heard afterwards. The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack and claimed it targeted a hotel popular with foreigners though other reports suggest a base housing foreign military contractors was targeted.

The November 2016 Kabul suicide bombing occurred on 21 November 2016. At least 32 people have been killed and above 80 were injured in a suicide bombing at a Kabul Shia mosque "Baqir-ul-Olum". People including women and children were commemorating Arba'een rituals. The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant – Khorasan Province claimed responsibility for the attack. It was just one in a string of major attacks in Kabul during 2016, and the third to be claimed by ISIL.

2017 attack on the Iraqi embassy in Kabul

On 31 July 2017, a militant of Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant blew himself up at the gate of the Iraqi embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan, followed by heavy firing by three other members of same group. Afghan security forces defended the embassy and a conflict started which lasted for four hours. Two members of Iraqi embassy were killed while three of the security officials were injured according to Interior Minister of Afghanistan, Najib Danish. On the other hand, all the four attackers were killed. ISIL claimed responsibility for the attack.

March 2018 Kabul suicide bombing

A suicide bombing occurred on 21 March 2018 around 12:00 PM in Kabul near Kart-e Sakhi, a Shia shrine. At least 33 people were killed with more than 65 wounded in the bombing. The militant group ISIL claimed responsibility for the attack.

2019 Kabul mosque bombing

The 2019 Kabul mosque bombing occurred around 01:20pm on 24 May 2019 when worshippers and the imam were inside the mosque for Friday prayer. The explosives were placed in the mosque's microphone which was used by the imam. At least four people were killed, including the imam, Samiullah Rayhan, and nearly 20 people were injured. So far, no group or individual has claimed to be responsible for the attack.

A suicide car bombing occurred in Ghazni, Afghanistan on 7 July 2019. It killed 14 people and injured another 180. The Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack.

28 July 2019 Kabul suicide bombing

On 28 July 2019, a suicide car bombing occurred in the Kabul office of the Vice Presidential candidate Amrullah Saleh, killing over 20 and injuring over 50 including slightly wounding Saleh. Four gunmen then stormed the building and laid siege for hours before being killed.

7 August 2019 Kabul bombing Suicide car bomb attack in Kabul

A suicide car bomb exploded at a security checkpoint outside a police station in the Afghanistan capital, Kabul, on 7 August 2019. The explosion occurred in the early morning, in a predominantly Shia neighbourhood in western Kabul. At least 14 people were killed and 145 injured, mostly civilians. The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack, citing that one of their suicide bombers attacked "a recruitment centre". The attack occurred as ongoing negotiations between the Taliban and the United States were being conducted.

17 August 2019 Kabul bombing Suicide bombing at a wedding in Kabul

On 17 August 2019, a suicide bombing took place during a wedding in a wedding hall in Kabul, Afghanistan. At least 80 people were killed in the attack and over 160 injured. The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant claimed responsibility for the bombing, stating that the attack targeted the Shi'ites. More than 1,000 people were gathered for the wedding when the attack took place. The attack occurred a day before the 100th Afghan Independence Day, causing the government to postpone the planned celebrations taking place at the Darul Aman Palace. It was the deadliest attack in Kabul since January 2018.
