Kaiwara is a small town in the Chikkaballapura district of Karnataka state, located approximately 65 km northeast of the state capital Bangalore.
In 1984, the 56th Kannada Sahithya Sammelana was organised in Kaivara, under the presidency of A. N. Murthy Rao.
As of the 2001 Indian census, Kaiwara's population was 5,488, of which 2,792 were male and 2,696 female. [1]
The poet Saint Narayanappa (1730-1840 AD), also known as Yogi Nareyana, as Kaiwara Narayana Thata (ನಾರಾಯಣ ತಾತ) in Kannada and as Narayana Thatayya in Telugu, meditated in a cave in Kaiwara. Narayanappa prophesied and composed poems in praise of Amara Narayanaswamy, an incarnation of Vishnu, in both Kannada and Telugu. His works include "Amaranarayana Shathaka", "Kaalagnana", [2] and "Bramanandpuri Shatakka", which describes nuances of yoga.
Sowmya Sathyanarayana, better known by her stage name Soundarya, was an Indian actress who worked in Telugu, Kannada, Tamil, Hindi and Malayalam films. She is regarded as one of the greatest actresses in the history of Telugu cinema and the most successful actress after Savitri. She has received three Nandi Awards, two Karnataka State Film Awards and six Filmfare Awards South. In 2002, she received the National Film Award for Best Feature Film as a producer for the Kannada film Dweepa.

Narayanappa, known by his pen name Kumara Vyasa, was an influential and classical Vaishnava poet of early 15th century in the Kannada language. His pen name is a tribute to his magnum opus, a rendering of the Mahabharata in Kannada. Kumara Vyasa literally means "Little Vyasa" or "Son of Vyasa". He was the contemporary and archrival of the famous Veerashaiva poet laureate Chamarasa who wrote the seminal work Prabhulingaleele covering the lives of Allama Prabhu and other Shiva Sharanas, circa 1435. Both poets worked in the court of Deva Raya II.

Samskara is a 1970 Indian Kannada-language film written by U. R. Ananthamurthy based on his eponymous novel, and directed and produced by Pattabhirama Reddy. Singeetam Srinivasa Rao was executive director for the film. It is considered a path-breaking film that pioneered the parallel cinema movement in Kannada. Kante Koothurne Kanu is a 1998 Indian Telugu-language drama film written, directed and produced by Dasari Narayana Rao starring Ramya Krishna in the lead role. The film won the National Film Award Special Mention Feature Film, "for taking a stand on gender discrimination" at the 46th National Film Awards, and won five state Nandi Awards including Best Feature Film. The film was later remade in Kannada Language as Hetthare Heranne Herrabekku (2007).

Kuppur Yalappa Narayanaswamy, also known as KYN, is a popular Kannada poet, scholar, critic, and playwright. He is currently a Kannada professor in the Maharani Cluster University, Bangalore. He is the author of many popular Kannada plays including Kalavu, Anabhigna Shakuntala, Chakraratna, Huliseere, and Vinura Vema. He has also translated Kuvempu's Shudra Tapaswi into Telugu. He is credited with adapting Kuvempu's magnum opus Malegalalli madumagalu into a 9-hour play. He has also written the screenplay for the films Kalavu and Suryakaanti.
