Kaushik Burman is an Indian engineer and business executive specializing in electric mobility and clean-energy transport. Burman holds a mechanical engineering degree from Osmania University UCE and an MBA from INSEAD. Since August 2023, he is the CEO of Spiro, a pan-African electric-mobility company, and previously he had served as General Manager for Gogoro in India since 2019. [1] [2]
Burman earned a degree in mechanical engineering from the University College of Engineering, Osmania University in Hyderabad. He obtained an MBA from INSEAD in 2011 and completed an advanced program in technology and policy at the Harvard Kennedy School. [3] [4]
Burman began his career at Tata Consultancy Services as a design engineer before moving to Nestlé India, Citibank, and HSBC in sales and business development roles. [5] In 2012, Burman joined Shell plc, working in roles across Europe and Asia that included fleet management, transport solutions, and marketing. [6] He contributed to Shell’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) business for transportation fuel and between 2017 and 2019 he served as General Manager for Shell Fleet Solutions in Singapore and Indonesia. In 2019, Burman joined Gogoro, a Taiwanese battery-swap and electric-scooter company. He was in charge of Gogoro’s global expansion and in 2022 he became General Manager for India. [7] He led pilot projects in Delhi and the National Capital Region, focusing on developing battery-swap infrastructure. [8] [9]
In 2023, Burman was appointed Co-CEO of Spiro, a company operating electric motorcycles and battery-swap infrastructure in Africa, including Rwanda, Benin, Togo,Nigeria and Kenya. [10] [6] He later became CEO and Board Director.
Burman has played a key role in expanding electric mobility in Asia and Africa. At Gogoro (2019–2023), he oversaw the development of India’s first battery-swapping pilot projects and related infrastructure. [11] [12] [9] Since 2023, as CEO of Spiro, he has led the company in scaling electric motorcycles and establishing battery-swapping networks across Rwanda, Benin, Togo, Nigeria, and Kenya, supporting the growth of sustainable transport systems in the region.
