Kendriya Vidyalaya Vigyan Vihar is a school in Delhi, India and one of the schools under the group known as the Kendriya Vidyalayas, a system of central government schools under the Ministry of Human Resource Development (India). [6] Kendriya Vidyalaya Vigyan Vihar is one among 42 Kendriya Vidyalayas in Delhi. [7] Founded in 1985 in India and instituted under the aegis of the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) the school was started with less than 100 students in a temporary tent at Vivek Vihar. [8] The school runs in two shifts known as 1st shift (morning) and 2nd shift (evening).

The Vidyalaya works in two shifts. The 1st shift begins at 7:00am-12: 30 pm with 4 sections per class follows as A,B,C,D and the 2nd shift begins at 1:00pm-6: 00 pm with four sections per class follows as E,F,G,H.

Kendriya Vidyalaya Vigyan Vihar has upgraded to "E-Classroom" and e-Learning teaching process with the implementation of Smart Boards in the classroom. The Vidyalaya has set up "Atal Tinkering Laboratory" [9] under the “Atal Innovation Mission” by the NITI ayog [10] government of India. The objective of this scheme is to foster curiosity, creativity, and imagination in young minds; and inculcate skills such as design mindset, computational thinking, adaptive learning, physical computing etc. The Vidyalaya encourages students to take part in various competitions which are conducted at school as well in regional and national levels. For CCA activities and house contests, the students are placed into four houses: SHIVAJI (Red), TAGORE(Blue), ASHOKA(Green), RAMAN(Yellow). The names of the houses are of famous Indian personalities.

The Vidyalaya produces an annual school magazine called Vidyalaya Patrika.

Awards and Notable events

In 2011 Kendriya Vidyalaya Vigyan Vihar won the Earthian Award 2011 the award was presented by Azim Premji on 21 January 2012 to five educational institutions from India; other recipients of the awards were IIT Kharagpur, IIM Bangalore, Rishi Valley school etc. [11]

The school is situated in a picturesque campus in the capital city Delhi, approximately 10km from Parliament town. It has three main playgrounds and a skating floor. The school has a small canteen and it has cycle parking for students and car and motorcycle parking for the school staff. There is also a bungalow for the school principal in the back of the school adjacent to the playgrounds. The school is under CCTV surveillance during school hours.

Science laboratories

The school has three fully equipped science labs (one each Chemistry, Physics, and Biology) which give the opportunity to students to work independently and thus learning by an understanding of science with special emphasis on practical work. [12] The school also has a junior science lab. [12]

Computer labs

The school has three fully equipped computer labs which have internet facility to help students to prepare projects and computer-aided learning helps to accelerate the pace of learning. [12]

Library

The well-lit air-conditional library provides a conducive environment for learning. [13] Children are issued books every week. Reading habit is a must among students. To cater to this need, the Vidyalaya Library facilitates 2000 students with an up-to-date stock of 12000 books and 33 magazines and periodicals, regular subscription to many newspaper magazines, periodicals and reference books of various disciplines make up the library. [12]

Playground

A playground for school athletic events provides genuine courts and conditions for organizing matches in Basket Ball, Volley Ball, Kho-Kho etc. at Cluster, Regional levels and state level.
