The University of Florida is a public land-grant research university in Gainesville, Florida. It is a senior member of the State University System of Florida and traces its origins to 1853 and has operated continuously on its Gainesville campus since September 1906.
The University of Central Florida (UCF) is a public research university in unincorporated Orange County, Florida. It is part of the State University System of Florida. With almost 72,000 students, it currently has the largest student body in the United States.
Valencia College is a public college in Orlando, Florida. It was founded in 1967 as Valencia Junior College, taking the name Valencia Community College in 1971. In December 2010, Valencia's Board of Trustees voted to change the name to Valencia College because the academic scope of the school had expanded to include bachelor's degrees. Valencia has several campus locations in Orlando with additional campus locations in Winter Park and Kissimmee.

The Orlando metropolitan area, commonly referred to as Greater Orlando, Metro Orlando, and for U.S. Census purposes as the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford, Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area, is a metropolitan area in the central region of the U.S. state of Florida. Its principal cities are Orlando, Kissimmee and Sanford. The U.S. Office of Management and Budget defines it as consisting of the counties of Lake, Orange, Brevard (AKA the Space Coast, Osceola, and Seminole.
John C. Hitt is an American former professor and academic administrator, who served as the fourth president of the University of Central Florida in Orlando, Florida from 1992 to 2018. Hitt was named the Orlando Sentinel's Central Floridian of the Year in 2005, and has twice been ranked as Orlando's most powerful person by Orlando Magazine. Hitt was also the dean of Florida's university presidents, serving as the longest tenured president in the state. His reputation was materially tarnished by auditor findings that tens of millions of dollars were improperly spent on construction during his tenure as president. Former president Hitt acknowledged the spending and resigned from his compensated fund raising role. His successor Dale Whittaker and the university's chief financial officer Bill Merck also resigned because of the scandal. Four other financial officers were fired.
Lake–Sumter State College is a public college in Central Florida. It is a member of the Florida College System. The college has three campuses in Lake and Sumter Counties: the original campus in Leesburg, the South Lake Campus in Clermont, and the Sumter Campus in Sumterville. The college also partners with The Villages Charter High School as a dual enrollment site.

Formerly, many of the college's programs were housed in the former College of Health and Public Affairs of the University of Central Florida located in Orlando, Florida, United States. The current dean of the college is Christopher Ingersoll. The college of Health and Public Affairs ceased to exist in 2018; its programs were restructured in the current College of Health Professions and Sciences, and by the College of Community Innovation and Education.

As of 2011, the system offers just under 6,500 beds on its main campus within five housing communities, 400 beds at the Rosen College of Hospitality Management, and 3,750 beds in university-affiliated housing.

The University of Central Florida College of Dental Medicine is a planned academic college of the University of Central Florida located in Orlando, Florida, United States. Approved by the UCF Board of Trustees in May 2011, the college still needs to seek approval from the Florida Board of Governors and accreditation from the American Dental Association. The university hopes to open the college by 2020.

AdventHealth University (AHU) is a Seventh-day Adventist institution specializing in healthcare education that is located in Orlando, Florida. It is associated with AdventHealth Orlando and AdventHealth, which is operated by the Seventh-day Adventist Church. It is a part of the Seventh-day Adventist education system, the world's second largest Christian school system. The physical facilities are located next to AdventHealth Orlando. The university offers over 20 undergraduate and graduate degrees from associate to doctorate level, including online and post-baccalaureate certificates.
