Laxmipur is a small town in Maharajganj district of Uttar Pradesh. It is located in eastern Uttar Pradesh. It is known for its first forest tramway of Asia or the Sohagi Barwa Sanctuary.

Maharajganj district is one of the 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh state in northern India, and the town of Maharajganj is the district headquarter. District is a part Gorakhpur division. It is located in Terai regions of Himalayas, bordering Nepal in North.

A forest railway, forest tram, timber line, logging railway or logging railroad is a mode of railway transport which is used for forestry tasks, primarily the transportation of felled logs to sawmills or railway stations.
