Le Parisien [a] (lit. 'The Parisian') is a French newspaper that covers international and national news as well as local news from the Paris area. It has been a subsidiary of Bernard Arnault's LVMH since 2015. [2]
The paper was established as Le Parisien libéré (pronounced [ləpaʁizjɛ̃libeʁe] ; lit. 'The Freed Parisian') by Émilien Amaury in 1944, [3] [4] and was published for the first time on 22 August 1944. The paper was originally launched as the organ of the French underground during the German occupation of France in World War II. [4]
The name was changed to the current one in 1986. [3] A national edition exists, called Aujourd'hui en France (pronounced [oʒuʁdɥiɑ̃fʁɑ̃s] ; lit. 'Today in France').
LVMH acquired the paper from Éditions Philippe Amaury in 2015. [5]
