Due to the long length of line 11 and high passenger volumes, it is common for line 11 passengers to be forced to stand on the train for their entire trip. In response to this, around early 2014, some passengers that travelled long distances between urban area and the suburban areas of Jiading or Sanlin that cannot bear standing for a long time started bringing their own small folding seats into the carriages. In the following years, the official Weibo of Shanghai Metro reminded passengers involved phenomenon to be safe and civilized as Shanghai Metro maintains that these foldable seats can be a safety hazard on trains and reduces capacity. Beginning in 2019, line 11 started having announcements in carriages to remind passengers to not bring and use their own seats on the train. [14] [15]

Line 2 opened on December 28, 2013. A further three lines, and an extension of Line 2, were completed between 2016 and 2021. Line 11 connecting Kunshan city which is under Suzhou's administration, and beyond to the Shanghai Metro was completed on June 24, 2023.
Line 13 is a north-west to south-east line of the Shanghai Metro network. It runs between Jinyun Road in Jiading and Zhangjiang Road in Pudong. It was once used as a dedicated line for the World Expo to serve the 2010 Shanghai World Expo. The line is colored pink on system maps.

The Pujiang line of Shanghai Metro is an automated, driverless, rubber-tired Shanghai Metro line in the town of Pujiang in the Shanghainese district of Minhang. Chenxiang Highway is a station on Line 11 of the Shanghai Metro in Shanghai, located between Nanxiang and Malu stations in the city's suburban Jiading District. It was conceived to be included with the first phase of Line 11 as Universal Park Station, dependent on the expansion program of the adjacent Shanghai Universal theme park. However, with the uncertainly in the viability of the park expansion project, reservations were made in Line 11's alignment to allow for the station to be added at a later date as an infill station while the rest of the Phase 1 opened in 2009. Shanghai Universal closed in 2000 due to financial issues and low patronage, leaving the new infill station unnecessary. Planned redevelopment of the Shanghai Universal lands into dense residential and commercial properties reintroduced the need for a metro station to serve the area. The start of the infill station project was approved in 2014 now as Chenxiang Highway station. Construction of the station started in 2018 and it was opened on August 25, 2020.

However, the station eventually opened on 23 January 2021 following a one-month postponement.
