Line 4 (Yellow) of the Rio de Janeiro Metro is the third metro line built in the city of Rio de Janeiro. [1] It was completed on 30 July 2016, connecting the Barra da Tijuca neighbourhood in the West Zone, passing under São Conrado and Rocinha, to Ipanema in the South Zone. All stations are underground, but when arriving in Barra da Tijuca, trains exit a tunnel, pass briefly by an elevated bridge and go underground again. [2] [1]
At first, the line was only open to those with a ticket to events of the 2016 Summer Olympics and members of the Olympic Family. It later opened to the general public, in September 2016. [3]
There were six exclusive stations planned for Line 4: Jardim Oceânico, São Conrado, Gávea , Antero de Quental, Jardim de Alah and Nossa Senhora da Paz. [1] However, as of April 2023, Gávea Station remains incomplete, and is the only planned station for Line 4 that hasn't yet become operational. [4]

The Rio de Janeiro Metro, commonly referred to as just the Metrô is a rapid transit network that serves the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The Metrô was inaugurated on 5 March 1979, and consisted of five stations operating on a single line. The system currently covers a total of 58 kilometres (36 mi), serving 41 stations, divided into three lines: Line 1 ; Line 2, which together travel over a shared stretch of line that covers 10 stations of an approximate distance of 5 kilometres (3.1 mi); and Line 4. Metrô Rio has the second highest passenger volume of the metro systems in Brazil, after the São Paulo Metro.
Barra da Tijuca is an upper-class neighborhood or bairro in the West Zone of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, located in the western portion of the city on the Atlantic Ocean. Barra is well known for its beaches, its many lakes and rivers, and its lifestyle. This neighbourhood represents 4.7% of the city population and 13% of the total area of Rio de Janeiro.
Gávea is an affluent residential neighborhood located in the South Zone of the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It borders São Conrado, Leblon, Lagoa and Jardim Botânico neighborhoods and is famous for its high concentration of artists. PUC-Rio, as well as several schools, are located in the neighborhood. Gávea is well known because of the "Baixo Gávea" area, which is considered a Bohemian quarter.
São Conrado is a neighborhood in the South Zone of the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It is nestled in between the neighborhoods of Barra da Tijuca to the southwest and Leblon to the northeast. The neighborhood takes its name from a small church, Igreja de São Conrado, which was constructed early in the 20th century by Conrado Jacob Niemeyer (1831–1905). São Conrado, which ranks as one of the areas with the highest Human Development Index in Brazil, presents a stark contrast to Rocinha on its border, which is one of the largest and poorest favelas in Brazil.

A contactless smartcard is used to pay fares for the buses, subway, and railway systems. São Paulo also has three airports.
General Osório / Ipanema is a station on Line 1 of the Rio de Janeiro Metro located in the Ipanema borough of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It is the line's southern terminus. The station opened in December 2009.
The South Zone is an area of the city of Rio de Janeiro situated between the Tijuca Massif, the Atlantic Ocean and Guanabara Bay. Most of it is made up of neighborhoods along the Atlantic coastline, such as São Conrado, Vidigal, Leblon, Ipanema, Copacabana, and Leme.
Line 15 (Silver) (Portuguese: Linha 15–Prata) is one of the six lines that make up the São Paulo Metro and one of the thirteen lines that make up the Metropolitan Rail Transportation Network. It is South America's first mass-transit monorail and is the first system in the world to use the Bombardier Innovia Monorail 300. When completed it will be the largest and highest capacity monorail system in the Americas and second worldwide only to the Chongqing Monorail. The first section, from Vila Prudente to Oratório, opened on 30 August 2014, initially running 10 AM–3 PM on weekends only. As of 26 October 2016, the line is operational from 4:40 AM–12 AM. The line has a free connection to Line 2-Green on Vila Prudente station and future connection to CPTM Line 10-Turquoise on Ipiranga station.
Line 17 (Gold) (Portuguese: Linha 17–Ouro) is an under construction monorail project for the São Paulo Metro. The line will have 14 stations, beginning at the São Paulo-Morumbi station and ending at the Jabaquara station, with a branch to Congonhas station, connected to the São Paulo/Congonhas Airport. It will have integration with Line 1-Blue, Line 4-Yellow, and Line 5-Lilac as well as CPTM Line 9-Emerald. The line was originally one of the transportation projects supporting the 2014 FIFA World Cup. However, delays and contract disputes have pushed the completion date from the original 2013 full opening date to 2026. Once completed, the line will be the first in the system to have a branch.
Uruguai / Tijuca is a station on the Rio de Janeiro Metro that services the neighborhood of Tijuca in the North Zone of Rio de Janeiro.
Jardim Oceânico / Barra da Tijuca is a station on the Rio de Janeiro Metro that services the neighborhood of Barra da Tijuca in the West Zone of Rio de Janeiro. It was previously simply named Jardim Oceânico, but was renamed alongside many others in August 2022 to include its neighborhood, Barra da Tijuca, in the name.
Rio de Janeiro is on the far western part of a strip of Brazil's Atlantic coast, close to the Tropic of Capricorn, where the shoreline is oriented east–west. Facing largely south, the city was founded on an inlet of this stretch of the coast, Guanabara Bay, and its entrance is marked by a point of land called Sugar Loaf – a "calling card" of the city.

Line 3 of the Rio de Janeiro Metro is a planned line which would connect Rio de Janeiro and Niterói. This is a challenge due to the fact that the line would need to cross the Guanabara Bay, presumably underwater. Niterói last had rail service of any kind in 2007 and its public transit is currently only served by buses and boats.
Jardim de Alah / Leblon is a station on Line 4 of the Rio de Janeiro Metro located in the Leblon neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The station opened alongside four others of Line 4 in late July 2016.
