Radio City

Radio City [4] is the first private FM radio station in INDIA and First FM station to come to Bengaluru and It was started on 3 July 2001 with the frequency 91 MHz. On 30 October 2006 it changed to the frequency 91.1 MHz.It is the only station in India to have completed 10 successful years and currently the number one station in Bengaluru according to RAM reports. [5] It broadcasts for 24 hours around the clock. It is operated by Music Broadcast India Private Limited.

FM Rainbow & Vividh Bharati

FM Rainbow & Vividh Bharati were the second & third radio stations. They are controlled by All India Radio. FM Rainbow was launched on 1 September 2001, while Vividh Bharati on 1 November 2001. Both stations broadcast for 17 hours daily from 5.20 to 23.20.

Gyanvani

Gyanvani [6] is the 4th radio station launched on 26 January 2004 with frequency 107.6 MHz. In January 2007, its frequency changed to 105.6 MHz. In March 2007 again its frequency was modified to 107.2 MHz. Since May 2009, it is transmitting in frequency 106.4 MHz. It is controlled by IGNOU. It broadcasts for a total of 10 hours daily, from 5.20 to 11.20 and 17.00 to 22.00. Gyanvani went off air since 1 October 2014 due to non-payment of dues to AIR. [7]

Amrutavarshini

Amrutavarshini [8] is the 5th radio station featuring mostly Indian classical music. It was started on frequency 100.3 MHz and later modified to 100.1 MHz. It is operated by All India Radio. It broadcasts in morning and evening hours, from 6.00 to 09.30 and 18.30 to 23.00. This channel airs music of renowned masters of Indian classical music of both Carnatic and Hindustani ways. It is known to be resourceful for music learners. It is a platform with rich heritage for future generation music lovers with respect to classical music.

Radio Mirchi

Radio Mirchi [9] was the 6th radio station launched on 17 April 2006 with frequency 93.3 MHz. On 1 August 2006, it modified its frequency to 98.3 MHz. It broadcasts for 24 hours a day and is controlled by Entertainmment Network India Limited.

Radio One

Radio One [10] was the 7th radio station launched on 1 August 2006 on a frequency of 94.3 MHz. It broadcasts from 6:00 AM to 1:30 AM. It is controlled by The Mid-Day Group.

Radio Indigo

Radio Indigo [11] was the 8th radio station launched on 19 September 2006, with a frequency of 91.9 MHz. It broadcasts for 24 hours a day and is controlled by Indigo Mass Communication Ltd.

Big FM

Big FM [12] was the 9th radio station launched on 9 October 2006, on frequency 92.7 MHz. Controlled by Reliance Broadcast, it broadcasts for 24 hours a day.

Red FM

Red FM [13] was the 10th radio station launched on 6 November 2006 on a frequency of 93.5 MHz, with the name S FM. On 24 August 2009, the name was modified to as Red FM. It broadcasts for 24 hours a day. It is controlled by Kal Radio Pvt Ltd. (Sun Network Ltd., a South Indian media house).

Fever FM

Fever FM [14] was the 11th radio station launched on 22 January 2007, on a frequency of 104 MHz. It broadcasts for 24 hoursa day. It is controlled by Hindustan Times & Virgin Radio.

Radio Active

Radio Active, (Frequency:90.4 MHz) is Bengaluru's 12th radio station and first community radio station, launched on 25 June 2007, by Jain Group of Institutions. [15]

Radio Universal

Radio Universal, (Frequency:106.8 MHz) [16] is Bengaluru's 13th radio station and second community radio station, launched on 21 June 2008, by Universal College. [17] The station broadcasts from Vijaynagar Tollgate Circle, Magadi Main Road in Bengaluru.

Radio Neladani

Radio Neladani, (Frequency:90.8 MHz) is Bengaluru's 14th radio station and third community radio station, launched on 3 September 2011. The station broadcasts from Nelamangala in rural North Bengaluru. The Neladani station is available in around 8–10 km radius of Nelamangala town covering Nelamangala and portion of Bengaluru North Taluk. This radio station was established with the help of Ministry of Agriculture, to produce content on farm related programs.

Amateur (Ham) Radio

Bengaluru has highest number of Amateur Radio Operators (hams) and the frequency allotted to them are on frequencies 144 MHz to 146 MHz on VHF and 434 MHz-438 MHz on UHF primarily on Frequency Modulation (FM).

Nets are conducted such as R5 Net at 0700 IST on VU2RSB repeater at frequencies Transmit – 145.100 MHz and Receive – 145.700 MHz and 2030 hours IST on the VU2TWO repeater at frequencies transmit – 145.050 MHz and Receive – 145.650 MHz.

Namm Radio

Namm Radio [18] is Kannada's first digital international radio station which is across all 196 countries, TIER-2 and TIER-3 cities of Karnataka. In addition to NammRadio being available as a stream on website, the radio station is also available as an interactive mobile application' free to download in iOS and Android. Coffee with Kannan is popular show of NammRadio hosted by Hiremagaluru Kannan. NammRadio is owned by Pastime Productions Private Limited.

Radio Chimpu

Radio Chimpu [19] is a Kannada internet radio station. It was launched on 15 June 2017. It is currently broadcast from Bengaluru, Karnataka. Participations are offered to people of all ages and categories.

Radio Chimpu has its policy as "Listen to what you want, not to what the program directors want". The station broadcasts for 17 hours daily from 6.00 to 23.00.

It is the first privately owned radio station in India.

AIR FM Gold is an FM radio channel in Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata and Chennai, India. It is run by the All India Radio, a government owned enterprise, a division of Prasar Bharati. In Mumbai, it features Hindi songs, and English songs along with hourly news in English and Hindi. It operates on 100.1 in Mumbai and on 100.1 Megahertz in Delhi. It was started on 15 August 2001 by the then Minister of Information & Broadcasting.

AIR FM Rainbow is a group of FM radio channels across India. The group of stations was previously called FM Metro, but the name was changed to FM Rainbow in 2002. The group is run by All India Radio, or AIR, a government owned enterprise. It features Hindi and regional language songs, while also playing English music and providing hourly news in English, regional language and/or Hindi. In Bhopal, FM Rainbow broadcasts in Hindi to more than 12 districts of Madhya Pradesh and 21 Bhopal City suburbs. AIR FM Rainbow Delhi airs in as many as ten cities, more than any of the other FM Rainbow frequencies. Mumbai, Lucknow, Vizag, Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Kakinada, Kochi and Bangalore all receive FM Rainbow transmissions on a variety of frequencies.

Radio City is India's first private FM radio station and was started on 3 July 2001 by Rupert Murdoch's Star TV Network. It broadcasts on 91.1 megahertz from Bengaluru, Mumbai, Lucknow and New Delhi. It plays Hindi, English and regional songs. It was launched in Hyderabad in March 2006, in Chennai on 7 July 2006 and in Visakhapatnam October 2007. Radio City recently forayed into New Media in May 2008 with the launch of a music portal - PlanetRadiocity.com now radiocity.in that offers entertainment related news, videos, songs, podcasts and other music-related features. The Radio station currently plays a mix of music from various languages. In 2010, Radio City has launched its first internet radio station Radio City Fun Ka Antenna and now they have 18 online radio stations. The FM broadcasting in India began in 1977, but boomed after 2001 when the privatisation of FM broadcasting began. AIR's FM LRS was inaugurated on 1 July 2000 at 06:00 hours in Kodaikanal relaying Madurai programs in the frequency 100.5 MHz. 100.5 was so popular that LRS was upgraded to an FM Channel in just two months. The channel covered a radius of about 200km due to its location at 2200 meters above MSL at Kodaikanal. KODAI FM is popularly known as it is the biggest individual FM channel in India, in both area coverage and listenership.

Binaca Geetmala was a weekly countdown show of top filmi songs from Hindi cinema. It was popular and had millions of listeners. Binaca Geetmala was broadcast on Radio Ceylon from 1952 to 1988 and then shifted to the Vividh Bharati Service of All India Radio network in 1989 where it ran until 1994. It was the first radio countdown show of Indian film songs, and has been quoted as being the most popular radio program in India during its run. Its name reflects its sponsorship by Binaca. Binaca Geetmala, and its subsequent incarnations named after Cibaca—Cibaca Sangeetmala, Cibaca Geetmala, and Colgate Cibaca Sangeetmala—ran from 1954 to 1994 on Radio Ceylon and then on Vividh Bharati. They also broadcast annual year-end lists from 1954 to 1993.

The Vividh Bharati Service of All India Radio was conceptualized to combat Radio Ceylon in 1967. Due to the Indian Government stopping its short wave relay centers, VBS is only available on the Internet. Vividh Bharati radio channel was launched on 3 October 1957.

Hyderabad, in India, has a well-developed communication and media infrastructure, and the city is covered by a large network of optical fiber cables. The city's telephone system is serviced by four landline companies: BSNL, Tata Indicom, Reliance and Airtel. There are a number of mobile-phone companies: Aircel, BSNL, Airtel, Hutch Idea Cellular, Uninor, MTS, Virgin Mobile, Tata Indicom, Tata DoCoMo and Reliance. Telugu-language radio was first broadcast from AIR Chennai, Egmore on 16 June 1938 at 8:15 pm when the Madras state Prime Minister Kurma Venkata Reddy Naidu and Chief Minister C. Rajagopalachari delivered inaugural speeches. In 1933 a 200 W radio station started by postal employee Mahbub Ali had gone on-air from Hyderabad, but in 1935 the Nizam of Hyderabad took control of it, and most programs were broadcast in Urdu. In July 1939 it was renamed as Deccan Radio, and on 1 April 1950 the Government of India took control from the Nizam and operated it as Akashavani. AIR Vijayawada started on 1 December 1948.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Mirchi FM</span> Radio station

Mirchi FM is a Fiji Hindi-language radio station in Fiji. The station broadcasts on the 97.8 frequency to the cities of Suva, Navua, Nausori, Labasa, Savusavu, Nadi, Denarau, Mamanuca and Lautoka. The station also broadcasts on the 97.6 MHz frequency to the towns of Coral Coast and Ba. The station broadcasts on 98.0 megahertz to the town of Tavua, and on 98.2 megahertz to Rakiraki and Nabouwalu. Mirchi FM is Fiji's first Hindi FM radio.
