Pirjo Irene Honkasalo is a Finnish film director who has also worked as a cinematographer, film editor, producer, screenwriter and actress. In 1980 she co-directed Flame Top with Pekka Lehto, with whom she worked earlier and later as well. The film was chosen for the 1981 Cannes Film Festival. In the 1990s she focused on feature documentaries such as "The Trilogy of the Sacred and the Satanic". Honkasalo returned to fiction with Fire-Eater (1998) and Concrete Night (2013), both of which were written by Pirkko Saisio. Concrete Night won six Jussi Awards in 2014, among them the Jussi for the Best Direction and the Jussi for the Best Film. Its world premiere was at the Toronto International Film Festival in Masters series.

Johanna Vuoksenmaa is a Finnish television and film director and screenwriter who has also worked as a photographer, installation artist and a teacher. Her films have been shown at numerous film festivals around the world and she has won many Finnish film and television awards for directing and screenwriting. As a director and screenwriter, Vuoksenmaa prefers the comedy genre because to her comedy means relief, forgiveness and defense. She does not use casting agencies but prefers to cast actors to her films herself, since she thinks that it creates a level of trust between the actor and the director.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Maunu Kurkvaara</span> Finnish film director (1926–2023)

Maunu Kurkvaara was a Finnish film director and screenwriter. Kurkvaara has been widely regarded as the initiator of the "new wave" of Finnish cinema in the spirit of French New Wave cinema. He directed 22 films between 1955 and 1993. Many of his films share a nautical theme due to his love of the sea. His film Yksityisalue was entered into the 13th Berlin International Film Festival. In 1965, he co-produced the film 4x4 and it was entered into the 4th Moscow International Film Festival.

Once Upon a Time in the North is a 2012 Finnish film written and directed by JP Siili. The film is about puukkojunkkaris, troublemakers who were active in the Southern Ostrobothnia region of Finland in the 19th century.

Roba is a Finnish police drama television series. The series follows the daily life of Helsinki Police Department's uniformed police unit located on the Pieni Roobertinkatu ("Roba") street. The series stars Kari Hietalahti, Aku Hirviniemi, Aarni Kivinen, Leena Pöysti, Riku Nieminen, and Tiina Lymi. Many of its episodes are directed by Joona Tena and Aleksi Mäkelä.

Eero Milonoff is a Finnish actor. He won a Guldbagge Award for his role in the 2018 film Border, and he has been a nominee at the Jussi Awards for his roles in the films Ganes (2007) and The Happiest Day in the Life of Olli Mäki (2016).

Presidential elections were held in Finland on 28 January 2018. The incumbent Sauli Niinistö received 63% of the vote and was elected for a second term, avoiding a second round. He received a plurality of the vote in every municipality and a majority in all but 13 municipalities.

<i>Reunion</i> (2015 film) 2015 Finnish film

Reunion is a 2015 Finnish comedy film directed by Taneli Mustonen. It's the story of three men, Antti, Niklas and Tuomas, traveling back to their old hometown to attend a high school class party, with the goal of realizing a wild weekend of freedom and fun. The film is starring by Sami Hedberg, Aku Hirviniemi and Jaajo Linnonmaa. The film is a Finnish remake of the 2011 Danish comedy film Klassefesten.

<i>The Hair</i> (film) 1974 Finnish film

The Hair is a 1974 Finnish erotic dark comedy thriller film written, produced and directed by Seppo Huunonen. It was loosely based on Lionel White's 1962 suspense novel Obsession, like Jean-Luc Godard's 1965 French film Pierrot le Fou. It tells the story of a middle-aged man who becomes deeply involved with the affairs and criminal connections of a mysterious girl. The main roles are played by Mikko Majanlahti and dancer Arja Virtanen, of which The Hair was the actress's only film. Virtanen's voice has been replaced by the voice of actress Tiia Louste.

Spede is a 2023 Finnish biographical film directed by Aleksi Delikouras. The film is about the lives of Pertti "Spede" Pasanen, Vesa-Matti Loiri, Simo Salminen and Ere Kokkonen in the late 1960s and early 1970s, when the Uuno Turhapuro character had just been invented.
