He has formerly played in the Philippine Basketball Association, playing for 16 years with the Magnolia Hotshots franchise. Simon was drafted 43rd overall in the 2001 PBA draft by the Sta. Lucia Realtors. His moniker is Scoring Apostle.

Nelson Asaytono is a Filipino retired professional basketball player who played for Purefoods, Swift/Sunkist/Pop Cola, San Miguel Beer, and Red Bull in the PBA during his 17-year career.

The 1992 Purefoods Tender Juicy Hotdogs season was the fifth season of the franchise in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA).

Jose J. Cantada, better known as "Smokin'" Joe Cantada, was a Filipino TV host, anchor & commentator. He died of lung cancer in March 1992. He distinguished himself with his smooth baritone voice and his flawless use of figures of speech and idioms in calling sports events.

The 1989 PBA Fiesta All-Filipino Conference finals was the best-of-7 series basketball championship of the 1989 PBA All-Filipino Conference, and the conclusion of the conference's playoffs. The San Miguel Beermen and Purefoods Hotdogs played for the 43rd championship contested by the league. This is the first All-Filipino finals series that will be competed in a best-of-seven format.

Alfredo Lorenzo Mendoza Jarencio is a Filipino basketball coach and former professional basketball player. He is the head coach for the UST Growling Tigers of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP). He also acts as the team manager for the NorthPort Batang Pier of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA).

Manila Clasico refers to the rivalry between the two most popular professional basketball teams in the Philippines today, the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel and the Magnolia Hotshots, both owned by San Miguel Corporation. The former represents the Ginebra San Miguel franchise while the latter carries the San Miguel Pure Foods franchise in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA).

The 1991 UST Glowing Goldies men's basketball team represented University of Santo Tomas in the 54th season of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines. The men's basketball tournament for the school year 1991–92 began on July 20, 1991, and the host school for the season was the University of the Philippines.
