Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U are crossover fighting video games developed by Bandai Namco Studios and Sora Ltd. and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U video game consoles. The Nintendo 3DS version was released in Japan in September 2014, and in North America, Europe, and Australia the following month. The Wii U version was released in North America, Europe, and Australia in November 2014, and in Japan the following month.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Smash-Up is a 2.5D fighting game for the Wii and PlayStation 2 video game consoles featuring characters from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise. It was developed by Game Arts in cooperation with Mirage Studios, and features similar gameplay to the Super Smash Bros. series. The game was released by Ubisoft in September 2009 in celebration of the TMNT franchise's 25th anniversary. Upon release, the game received generally positive critical reception.
The Evolution Championship Series, commonly known as Evo, is an annual esports event that focuses exclusively on fighting games. The tournaments are completely open and use the double elimination format. As with Super Battle Opera, contestants travel from all over the world to participate, most notably from Japan. The first Evolution was originally held as a Super Street Fighter II Turbo and Street Fighter Alpha 2 tournament called the Battle by the Bay. It changed its name to Evo in 2002. Every successive tournament has seen an increase of attendees. It has been held at various venues across the Las Vegas Valley since 2005.
Jason Sheldon Zimmerman, known by his gamertag Mew2King, commonly shortened to M2K, is an American professional Super Smash Bros. player. He has won more than 70 tournaments during his career, primarily in Super Smash Bros. Melee. He is one of the "Five Gods" of Melee, along with Juan "Hungrybox" Debiedma, Adam "Armada" Lindgren, Kevin "PPMD" Nanney, and Joseph "Mang0" Marquez and is also one of the most accomplished Super Smash Bros. Brawl players. He is also a skilled player of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Project M.
Apex was an annual esports tournament held in New Jersey that focused on fighting games, specifically Super Smash Bros. The event's first incarnation was in 2009 with Jesus "Jman" Fernandez as the champion of Super Smash Bros. Melee and Elliot "Ally" Carroza-Oyarce as champion of Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Each year the event grew with more competitors entering. Apex 2014 garnered 629 entrants and was the 2nd largest tournament for Melee at the time after EVO 2013. Though the tournament initially focused on Brawl, the feature game has since switched to Melee due to its popularity. In 2010, an event for Super Smash Bros. for the Nintendo 64 was added. In 2014, the fan modification of Brawl, Project M was added for singles only. Project M has recently been removed as an official event out copyright concerns under Nintendo of America sponsorship and Third Party relations.
Juan Manuel DeBiedma, also known as Hungrybox, is an Argentine American professional Super Smash Bros. player from Orlando, Florida. One of the "Five Gods" of Melee along with Jason "Mew2King" Zimmerman, Joseph "Mango" Marquez, Adam "Armada" Lindgren, and Kevin "PPMD" Nanney, DeBiedma has won several major tournaments, including Apex 2010 and EVO 2016. He is widely regarded to be the best Jigglypuff player of all time and has been ranked in the top five in the world every year since formal rankings began in 2013. DeBiedma holds the mark for most money won in a single Melee tournament, with $29,315.30 at Smash Summit 5 in November 2017, and he has won more money lifetime playing Melee than any other player. DeBiedma also played Project M and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, primarily playing Jigglypuff in the former and Mario in the latter. Following the release of the game, he began competing in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate tournaments with Jigglypuff. He is a member of Team Liquid.
Gonzalo Barrios, known by his gamertag ZeRo, is a Chilean professional Super Smash Bros. player. He is considered the best Super Smash Bros. for Wii U player in the world throughout his career. ZeRo had a record-breaking 56-tournament winning streak from 2014 to 2015, in which he won several high-profile tournaments including EVO 2015 and The Big House 5. In the past he has been a top ranked Super Smash Bros. Brawl player. He is best known for playing as Diddy Kong in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, Pit in Project M, Meta Knight in Brawl, and Fox in Melee. He is the only person to earn more than US$100,000 playing Super Smash Bros. for Wii U competitively.
Professional Super Smash Bros. competition involves professional gamers competing in the Super Smash Bros. series of crossover fighting games published by Nintendo. Competition began in 2002 with multiple tournaments held for Super Smash Bros. Melee, released for the GameCube in 2001. Later tournaments also featured the original Super Smash Bros. (1999), Super Smash Bros. Brawl (2008), Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and for Wii U (2014), and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (2018). Major Smash tournaments include Community Effort Orlando, DreamHack, Evolution Championship Series, Genesis, Super Smash Con and The Big House. From 2004 to 2006, Major League Gaming (MLG) included Melee in its Pro Circuit, and then supported the MLG Smash Series in 2007. In 2010, MLG had Brawl in its Pro Circuit. The MLG Anaheim 2014 and MLG World Finals 2015 championship also featured Melee and Wii U events. Super Smash Bros. games also have a large, widespread grassroots scene that supports tournaments at the amateur and local level. Several top players have been recruited by eSports organizations.
Nairoby Quezada, known by his gamertag Nairo, is an American professional Super Smash Bros. player from Passaic, New Jersey. He is regarded as a top player of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, and Super Smash Bros. Brawl. He primarily uses Palutena in Ultimate, Zero Suit Samus in Wii U, and Meta Knight in Brawl.
The Big House is an annual Super Smash Bros tournament held since 2011 in Michigan.
Genesis, stylized as GENESIS, is a series of Super Smash Bros. tournaments occurring in the San Francisco Bay Area of the United States state of California. The first Genesis tournament took place in 2009 in Antioch at the Contra Costa County Fairgrounds.

Over 10,000 people registered for the event with Tekken 7 receiving double the number of players from the previous year.
DreamHack Austin 2017 was a video game convention and esports event held by DreamHack in Austin, Texas, on April 28–30, 2017. DreamHack Austin hosted the DreamHack Astro Open Counter Strike: Global Offensive tournament, as well as tournaments for Super Smash Bros., Street Fighter V, and StarCraft II.
Leonardo Lopez Perez, also known by his gamertag MkLeo, is a Mexican professional Super Smash Bros. player. He is widely considered the best Super Smash Bros. Ultimate player in the world, being ranked first by the e-sports brand Panda Global; he was formerly ranked 1st in the world for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U after ZeRo's retirement. His main character in Ultimate is Joker while his main characters in Wii U were Cloud Strife and Marth. He is also known for winning EVO 2019, the largest Smash Bros. tournament of all time.
