Botswana competed at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece, from 13 to 29 August 2004.
The Gambia has sent athletes to every Summer Olympic Games held since 1984, although the country has never won an Olympic medal. The Gambia is yet to compete at the Winter Olympic Games.
Botswana has competed in 11 Summer Olympics. Botswana's debut was at the 1980 Summer Olympics, in Moscow. They have yet to compete in a Winter Olympics. Botswana won its inaugural medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics with Nijel Amos getting a silver in the 800m. The men's 4 x 400 relay team won a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics.
Botswana participated in the 2010 Summer Youth Olympics in Singapore.
Botswana competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, United Kingdom, from 27 July to 12 August 2012. This was the nation's ninth appearance at the Olympics.
During the parade of nations portion of the 1980 Summer Olympics opening ceremony, athletes from each country participating in the Olympics paraded in the arena, preceded by their flag. The flag was borne by a sportsperson from that country chosen either by the National Olympic Committee or by the athletes themselves to represent their country.
Michael Medor is an amateur Mauritian lightweight boxer. Medor qualified for the Mauritian squad in the men's lightweight division (60 kg) at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens after claiming the title and receiving a berth from the second AIBA African Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Gaborone, Botswana. He lost the opening match to Mongolia's Uranchimegiin Mönkh-Erdene in the preliminary round of thirty-two with a scoring decision of 23–29. Medor was also appointed as the Mauritian flag bearer by the National Olympic Committee in the opening ceremony.
Justice Dipeba is an Olympic athlete from Botswana who competed at the 1996 Summer Olympics. He competed at the Men's 200 metres event representing Botswana. However, he was placed 5th at 21.09 in Heat 10, and thus did not advance any further. In addition, Dipeba was also the flag bearer of Botswana during the 1996 Summer Olympics opening ceremony.
Botswana competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, from 5 to 21 August 2016. This was the nation's tenth consecutive appearance at the Summer Olympics.
