Shivaji University, established in 1962, is a state university located at Kolhapur, Maharashtra, India. The university, with a campus spread over 853 acres (345 ha), is named in honour of Shivaji I, who reigned as the first Maratha Chhatrapati from 1674 to 1680. It was inaugurated on 18 November 1962 by Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the then president of India. Yashwantrao Chavan and Balasaheb Desai took the lead in establishing this university. One of the major objectives behind its foundation was to cater to the educational needs of South Maharashtra region. The University's efforts towards excellence are being recognised by the substantial grants received from funding agencies such as University Grants Commission (India), Department of Science and Technology (India).

Akola is a major city in the Vidarbha region of the Indian state of Maharashtra. The third largest city in Eastern Maharashtra after Nagpur and Amravati, it is located about 580 kilometres (360 mi) east of the state capital, Mumbai, and 250 kilometres (160 mi) west of the second capital, Nagpur. Akola is the administrative headquarters of the Akola district located in the Amravati division.

In India, a deemed university or deemed-to-be-university is an accreditation granted to higher educational institutions in India by the Ministry of Education. According to the ministry's definition, the accreditation indicates, "an Institution of higher education, other than universities, working at a very high standard in specific area of study" and the accreditation grants "the academic status and privileges of a university."

<span class="mw-page-title-main">University Grants Commission (India)</span> Commission on standards of higher education streams in india

University Grants Commission is a statutory body under Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Government of India. It was set up in accordance to the UGC Act 1956 and is charged with coordination, determination and maintenance of standards of higher education in India. It provides recognition to universities in India, and disbursements of funds to such recognized universities and colleges. The UGC headquarters are in New Delhi, and it has six regional centres in Pune, Bhopal, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Guwahati and Bangalore. A proposal to replace it with another new regulatory body called HECI is under consideration by the Government of India. The UGC provides doctoral scholarships to all those who clear JRF in the National Eligibility Test. On an average, each year 725 crore (US$87 million) is spent on doctoral and post-doctoral fellowships by the commission.

Modern education was introduced to Maharashtra region during the 19th century by British colonial administration. Census of 2011 showed literacy rates in the state for males and females were around 78% and 67% respectively. Education at different levels in the state is provided by the state, government supported charities, or private institutions. There are also a number of institutes offering vocational training.

Marathwada Institute of Technology, Aurangabad is an Indian educational institute located in Aurangabad in the Indian state of Maharashtra. It is run by Gramodyogik Shikshan Mandal (GSM) trust. It was established in 2001. It offers various engineering and management programs.

The Indian Agricultural Universities Association or IAUA is a registered Indian society based in New Delhi which aims to promote agricultural research, education and extension in universities and states.

Atmaram Bhairav Joshi was an Indian agricultural scientist and academic, known for his contributions to the field of wheat and other crop breeding. He was the vice-chancellor of Mahatma Phule Krishi Viswavidyalaya, Rahuri and the chairman of the Research Advisory Committee of the Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi. The Government of India awarded him the fourth highest Indian civilian award of Padma Shri in 1975.

Chinmaya Vishwa Vidyapeeth (CVV), commonly known as Chinmaya University or CVV, is the first private deemed university in the 'de novo' category in Kerala, recognised by the University Grants Commission. Established in 2016 during the centenary year of Swami Chinmayananda. With its headquarters located at Veliyanad (near Piravom), the maternal home of Adi Shankara, in Ernakulam District, Kerala, the university has two campuses – in Ernakulam and Kolwan, Pune.The headquarters of the university are situated at the maternal home of Adi Shankara at Veliyanad, (near Piravom) Ernakulam District, Kerala, India.
