After the ratification of the Lisbon Treaty by all member states, the Netherlands got 1 extra seat in parliament.
This extra seat was treated as a remainder seat of the 2009 election.

Barry Madlener is a Dutch politician serving as a member of the House of Representatives since 2012. A member of the Party for Freedom (PVV), he was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2006. Madlener became the PVV's leader in the European Parliament following the 2009 election, an office he resigned from upon his reelection to the House of Representatives in 2012.

Daniël Teunis van der Stoep is a Dutch politician who was a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) during two periods from July 2009 to August 2011 and from December 2011 to July 2014.

M. J. R. L. "Marcel" de Graaff is a Dutch politician. He has been a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) for the Netherlands since February 2020, and previously served between 2014 and 2019. He represented the Party for Freedom (PVV) and was co-president of the Europe of Nations and Freedom. De Graaff was a member of the Senate of the Netherlands for the PVV from 2011 to 2014.

Article 50 was a Eurosceptic political party in the Netherlands. The party was founded by MEP Daniël van der Stoep in 2012. The name refers to article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty, of which the first sentence is "Any Member State may decide to withdraw from the Union in accordance with its own constitutional requirements", as well as article 50 of the Constitution of the Netherlands, which states that "[t]he States General shall represent the entire people of the Netherlands." On 27 January 2015, the party merged into For the Netherlands, and therefore Article 50 ceased to exist.

An election of the Members of the European Parliament from the Netherlands was held on 23 May 2019. It is the ninth time the elections have been held for the European elections in the Netherlands. The number of Dutch seats was to increase from 26 to 29 following Brexit, but due to the extension of the Article 50 process in the United Kingdom, the number of seats to be elected will remain at 26.
