In 1949, he married the former Helen Angela Walsh, who died on September 13, 2005. They had five children, including former Republican U.S. Representative James B. Longley Jr..

Lewiston High School (LHS) is a public high school in Lewiston, Maine, United States. The school was founded in 1850 and has occupied its current building since 1973.The school mascot is the Blue Devil and the colors are blue and white. The new principal is Jonathan Radtke. From the 1930s to 1973 the high school was located on Central Ave and that building currently serves as Lewiston Middle School.

The 1998 Maine gubernatorial election took place on November 3, 1998 to elect the governor of Maine. Incumbent Independent governor Angus King won re-election to a second term, defeating Republican nominee James B. Longley Jr., Democratic nominee Thomas J. Connolly, Green Independent nominee Pat LaMarche and Taxpayers' Party nominee William P. Clarke Jr.

Susan Walsh Longley is an American politician, lawyer, and jurist from Maine. A Democrat, Longley served in the Maine Senate from 1994 to 2002, where she represented Waldo County. In 2002, she sought the Democratic Party's nomination for Maine's 2nd congressional district, where she sought to replace John Baldacci. She lost in the June primary to Senate President Mike Michaud. In 2004, Longley unseated incumbent Republican Waldo County Judge of Probate Randy Mailloux. She was re-elected in 2008, 2012 and 2016. She retired in 2019.

The 2018 United States Senate election in Maine was held on November 6, 2018, alongside a gubernatorial election, U.S. House elections, and other state and local elections. Incumbent Independent Senator Angus King won reelection to a second term.
