Beschermd erfgoed is the official term to describe Flemish National Heritage Sites listed by law to protect and spread awareness of Belgian cultural heritage, specifically in Flanders. The term is also used nationwide to refer to national heritage sites. Because Belgium is officially a tri-lingual country, the other nationwide terms used in the rest of the country are the French term Bien classé and the German term Kulturdenkmal.
Chimay is a Walloon municipality in the Belgian province of Hainaut. In 2006, Chimay had a population of 9,774. The area is 197.10 km² which gives a population density of 50 inhabitants per km². It is the source of the Oise River.

They make three ales: Chimay Rouge, Chimay Bleue, and Chimay Blanche; and one patersbier for the monks. The monastery also makes four varieties of cheese.
The Grand Prix des Frontières was a motor race held at a street circuit in Chimay, Belgium. The race was created by Jules Buisseret, who was also responsible for the circuit's existence. The first event was held in 1929 and was discontinued after the 1972 event for safety reasons.
