The Lithuanian Association for Writers is an association for writers and poets in Lithuania, founded in 1922. [1] It gives annual prizes and awards to talented Lithuanian writers. [2]

The Association also has its own publishing house. [3]

Lithuania, officially the Republic of Lithuania, is a country in the Baltic region of Europe. Currently, Lithuania maintains diplomatic relations with 182 states Lithuania became a member of the United Nations on 18 September 1991, and is a signatory to a number of its organizations and other international agreements. It is also a member of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, NATO and its adjunct North Atlantic Coordinating Council, the Council of Europe, and the European Union. Lithuania gained membership in the World Trade Organization on 31 May 2001.

Vilnius is the capital of Lithuania and its largest city, with a population of 587,581 as of 2019. The population of Vilnius's functional urban area, which stretches beyond the city limits, is estimated at 706,832, while according to the Vilnius territorial health insurance fund, there were 732,421 permanent inhabitants as of October 2020 in Vilnius city and Vilnius district municipalities combined. In the Russian Empire, it was the capital of the Kaunas Governorate from 1843 to 1915.

Jonas Zdanys is a bilingual poet, a leading translator of modern Lithuanian fiction and poetry into the English language., and a literary theorist whose writings on translation theory reinforce a conservative humanistic literary agenda. He was born in New Britain, Connecticut, in 1950, a few months after his parents arrived in the United States from a United Nations camp for Lithuanian refugees. He is a graduate of Yale University and earned a Ph.D. in English literature from the State University of New York at Buffalo, where he studied with Robert Creeley among other writers.

Virgilijus Čepaitis

Virgilijus Juozas Čepaitis is a Lithuanian publisher and translator, best known for his involvement in the Sąjūdis independence movement. He was the Executive Secretary of Sąjūdis and a member of its Initiative Group. He was also a signatory of the Declaration of the Restoration of Independence of Lithuania on March 11, 1990.

Ingrida Šimonytė Lithuanian politician and economist

Ingrida Šimonytė is a Lithuanian politician and economist who is the current Prime Minister of Lithuania, having taken office on 25 November 2020. Šimonytė has served as a member of the Seimas for the Antakalnis constituency since 2016 and was minister of finance in the second Kubilius cabinet from 2009 until 2012. She was a candidate in the 2019 presidential election, but lost in the second round run-off. Šimonytė is an independent politician, although she has been affiliated with the Homeland Union.

Donaldas Kajokas Poet and essayist

Donaldas Kajokas is a poet, essay writer and editor of the Nemunas literary supplement.  He studied at the Kaunas Institute of Physical Education and Lithuanian Physical Culture Institute. He sits on the Lithuanian Writers’ Union on the Council of Kaunas Section.
