M Anwar Hossain is a senior Bangladesh Navy officer who serving as Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Operation) as of December 2023. He previously served as deputy director general of the Bangladesh Coast Guard and commander of Khulna Naval Area.

Career

Hossain was commissioned in the Bangladesh Navy on 1 January 1988. [1]

Every year from 2011 through 2019, he participated in the annual bilateral Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training exercises conducted with the United States Navy. [2] He was commanding officer of the guided missile frigate BNS Ali Haider in May 2014, when it deployed as part of the maritime task force (MTF) of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). [1] [3]

Since promotion to flag rank, Hossain has held appointments as deputy director general of the Bangladesh Coast Guard, [4] and commander of Khulna Naval Area. [5]

He served on Khulna Shipyard Ltd's board of directors through April 2023. [6]

Personal life

Anwar Hossain is married to Lubna Anwar. They have two children; one son and one daughter. [1]

The Khulna Shipyard Limited(Bengali: খুলনা শিপইয়ার্ড লিমিটেড) is a Bangladeshi state-owned defense contractor based in Khulna, Bangladesh. It is located on 68.97 acres (27.91 ha) of land at Labanchara, Khulna, Bangladesh. It is about 45 km north from the Port of Mongla. The shipyard has the capacity to build steel / aluminium ships up to 90 m length and 700 tons lightweight. The shipyard has a slipway with a capacity to dock and undock vessels up to 700 tons lightweight and overall length of 84 meters.

The Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) is a series of annual bilateral military exercises conducted by the United States Pacific Fleet, with several member nations of ASEAN in Southeast Asia. Currently, the navies of Bangladesh, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, and Thailand participate. Objectives of CARAT include enhancing regional cooperation; building friendships, and strengthening professional skills. In 2010, Cambodia and Bangladesh became the first CARAT participants to join the exercise since 1995.

BNS <i>Madhumati</i>

BNS Madhumati is a Sea Dragon-class patrol craft of the Bangladesh Navy. This vessel has been serving the Bangladesh Navy since 1998.

BNS <i>Somudra Joy</i>

BNS Somudra Joy is one of the two largest ships of the Bangladesh Navy along with her sister ship BNS Somudra Avijan. Although originally a high endurance cutter the Bangladesh Navy reclassified the ship as a frigate. They acquired the ship from the United States under Excess Defense Articles. Currently she is being used as a training ship for naval cadets.

The Padma class is a class of patrol vessels of the Bangladesh Navy. The ships were constructed at the Khulna Shipyard, through a development program overseen and supported by the CSIC.

BNS <i>Bijoy</i>

BNS Bijoy is a Castle-class guided missile corvette of the Bangladesh Navy. She has been serving in the Bangladesh Navy since 2011.

BNS Durjoy is a Durjoy-class semi-stealth large patrol craft (LPC) of the Bangladesh Navy. She is the first ship of the class. She entered service with the Bangladesh Navy in 2013.

Rear Admiral Mir Ershad Ali, OSP, NPP, ndc, psc, BN is a two-star admiral in Bangladesh Navy. He served as 15th director general of the Bangladesh Coast Guard. Prior to this appointment, he served as chairman of Mongla Port Authority and before that commander of Bangladesh Navy Fleet. He also served as director of naval intelligence (DNI) at Naval Headquarters. He elevated to the rear admiral rank from commodore on 25 January 2022.
