Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) is a private University affiliated with the Roman Catholic Church in Uganda. The University is owned by the Episcopal Conference of the Catholic Bishops of Uganda. It is licensed by the Uganda National Council for Higher Education. UMU consists of seven Faculties, two Institute, six Campuses, nine Departments, and three schools. As of March 2022, total student enrollment is 4,632. Of these, about 1,500 students were residential, while nearly 3,000 students were enrolled in UMU's distance learning programs. The number of staff members was over 400.
Makerere University School of Public Health (MUSPH) is one of the schools that comprise the Makerere University College of Health Sciences, a constituent college of Makerere University, Uganda's oldest and largest public university.
Makerere University College of Health Sciences (MakCHS) is a constituent college of Makerere University, Uganda's oldest university. The schools of the college offer undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the biomedical sciences, health sciences, human medicine and public health, covering a broad range of disciplines and specialties.
The Makerere University School of Biomedical Sciences (MakSBS) is one of the four schools that comprise the Makerere University College of Health Sciences (MakCHS), a semi-autonomous constituent college of Makerere University, Uganda's oldest university. Between 1924 and 2007, the school was part of the Makerere University School of Medicine and constituted the pre-clinical departments of anatomy, biochemistry, physiology, pharmacology, microbiology, and pathology. In 2007, those departments were organized into a separate school. MakSBS provides biomedical education at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

He served as the chairman of the Uganda Health Services Commission from 2007 to 2012. Previously, from 1997 until 2003, he served as Uganda's High Commissioner to the United Kingdom.
Nelson Kaulukusi Sewankambo, MBChB, MMed, MSc, FRCP, LLD (Hon), is a Ugandan physician, academician, medical researcher, and medical administrator. He is a professor of medicine and former principal of the Makerere University College of Health Sciences, a semi-autonomous constituent college of Makerere University.
As of 2021, 11 universities in Uganda offer medical schools. Admission to medical school requires the candidate to have attained a Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) as well as proficiency in Biology or Zoology, Chemistry and Physics at A-level standards. Training leading to the degree of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) lasts five years. Major examinations are conducted after the first, second and fifth year, with additional evaluations after each clinical rotation. After successful completion of the fifth year, candidates complete a year of internship under the supervision of specialists. Postgraduate training is available at Makerere University School of Medicine and other Public and Private Universities in a number of medical and surgical disciplines. The training takes three to four years and leads to the Master of Medicine (MMed) degree. The East, Central and Southern Africa College of Health Sciences is nowadays another alternative postgraduate training pathway in Uganda, such as Membership [MCS (ECSA)] and Fellowship [FCS (ECSA)] of the College of Surgeons of East, Central and Southern Africa (COSECSA); as well as in Internal Medicine through the East, Central and Southern Africa College of Physicians (ECSACOP) and the College of Obstetrics and Gynecology of East, Central and Southern Africa (ECSACOG) for Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
Professor Paul George D'Arbela MBChB, FRCP, is a Ugandan physician, cardiologist, academic, and medical researcher. According to a 2008 published report, he is a professor of medicine and the dean of postgraduate studies at the Mother Kevin Postgraduate Medical School, based at St. Francis Hospital Nsambya in Nsambya, a neighborhood in Kampala.
Professor Charles Mark Lwanga Olweny, MBChB, MMed, MD, FRACP, is a Ugandan physician, oncologist, academic and medical researcher. Currently he is a professor of medicine and Immediate past vice-chancellor at Uganda Martyrs University, based at Nkozi, Mpigi District, in Central Uganda.
Hakim Sendagire is a Ugandan physician, biochemist, academic and medical administrator. Currently he is the Dean at Habib Medical School, College of Health Sciences of the Islamic University in Uganda, a private university, one of the 41 universities in the country, as at February 2015.
Josephine Nambooze is a Ugandan physician, public health specialist, academic, and medical researcher. She is an emeritus professor of public health at Makerere University School of Public Health. Nambooze was the first female East African to qualify as a physician circa 1959.
Professor Charles Ibingira is a Ugandan surgeon, academic and medical administrator. He is the Principal of Makerere University College of Health Sciences. He was appointed to that position in November 2015, on a four-year renewable contract. He has previously served as the Dean of Makerere University School of Biomedical Sciences, from 2010 until 2014.
Sarah Kiguli, MBChB, MMed (Pediatrics), MHPE, is a Ugandan pediatrician, academic, and medical researcher. She is a professor and head of the Department of Pediatrics and Child Health at the Makerere University School of Medicine, a component of the Makerere University College of Health Sciences.
Moses R Kamya, is a Ugandan physician, academic, researcher and academic administrator, who serves as Professor and Chair of the Department Medicine, Makerere University School of Medicine, a component of Makerere University College of Health Sciences.
Cissy Kityo Mutuluuza, is a Ugandan physician, epidemiologist and medical researcher. She is the Executive Director of the Joint Clinical Research Centre, a government-owned medical research institution in Uganda, specializing in HIV/AIDS treatment and management.
Charles Kabugo is a senior consultant internal medicine physician in the Uganda Ministry of Health. He is the executive director of Kiruddu General Hospital, in Makindye Division, in the south of Kampala, the capital and largest city of Uganda. He was appointed to that position on 9 August 2018.
Pauline Byakika–Kibwika is a Ugandan specialist physician, internist, epidemiologist, academic and researcher. She was appointed and announced as the vice chancellor of Mbarara University of Science and technology. in August 2024 after emerging the best out of the 5 candidates shortlisted for the job. She previously served as a Professor of Medicine at Makerere University College of Health Sciences. From 2017 until 2019, she served as the Vice President of the Uganda Medical Association, a professional industry association that champions medical doctors' interests in Uganda.
Ponsiano Ocama is a Ugandan physician, researcher, academic and academic administrator, who is an associate professor of medicine and former head of department of Internal Medicine at Makerere University School of Medicine, a component of Makerere University College of Health Sciences.
Ekwaro Obuku, is a Ugandan physician, researcher, academic and health policy expert, who is the immediate past president of the Uganda Medical Association, a professional industry association, that champions medical doctors' interests in the county. He is also currently, a Doctor of Philosophy candidate at Makerere University College of Health Sciences, in collaboration with McMaster University.
Andrew Ddungu Kambugu is a Ugandan physician who serves as The Sande-McKinnell Executive Director at Uganda Infectious Disease Institute and a Honorary Senior lecturer at Makerere University College of Sciences. He is also an Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Minnesota. In July 2020, he was appointed to the United Nations 2021 Food System Scientific Group.
