Manp'o Ch'ŏngnyŏn Station is a railway station in Manp'o municipal city, Chagang Province, North Korea, on the Manp'o Line of the Korean State Railway; it is also the starting point of the Pukbunaeryuk Line to Hyesan and of the Unha Line to Unha. [1]

History

The station, originally called Manp'o Station, was opened on 1 February 1939 by the Chosen Government Railway, along with the rest of the final section of the Manp'o Line from Kanggye to Manp'o. It received its current name after the establishment of the DPRK. With the opening of the Ji'an Yalu River Border Railway Bridge later in 1939 a connection was made with the South Manchuria Railway, and in October 1939 a P'yŏngyang-Jilin passenger train was put into service.

Services

There is an express passenger service operating between Manp'o Ch'ŏngnyŏn and Haeju, two semi-express trains, between Manp'o and Hamhŭng and between Manp'o and Changyŏn, [1] along with various commuter trains. [2]

An international passenger service from Manp'o to Ji'an exists in the form of a single passenger car attached to the daily cross-border freight train. This train is not open to use by foreigners other than ethnic Koreans from China.

Rail transport in North Korea

Rail transport in North Korea is provided by Korean State Railway which is the only rail operator in North Korea. It has a network of over 6,000 km of track, of which the vast majority is standard gauge; there is, however, nearly 400 km of narrow-gauge lines (762 mm) in various locations around the country.

Korean State Railway

The Korean State Railway is the operating arm of the Ministry of Railways of North Korea and has its headquarters at P'yŏngyang. The current Minister of Railways is Jang Hyuk, who has held the position since 2015.

Pyongbu Line railway line

The P'yŏngbu Line is an electrified standard-gauge trunk line of the Korean State Railway running from P'yŏngyang to Kaesŏng in North Korea and further south across the DMZ to Seoul in South Korea; the name comes from the two (theoretical) termini of the line: P'yŏngyang and Pusan.

Ch'ŏngjin Ch'ŏngnyŏn Station is the central railway station in Ch'ŏngjin-si, North Hamgyŏng Province, North Korea. It is the junction point of the Hambuk Line and the P'yŏngra Line of the Korean State Railway, and is the beginning of the Ch'ŏngjinhang Line to Ch'ŏngjin Port.

Kaechon Line

The Kaech'ŏn Line is an electrified standard-gauge secondary line of the Korean State Railway running from Sinanju on the P'yŏngŭi Line to Kaech'ŏn on the Manp'o Line.

Hwanghae Chongnyon Line

The Hwanghae Ch'ŏngnyŏn Line is an electrified standard-gauge secondary line of the Korean State Railway in the North and South Hwanghae provinces of North Korea, running from Sariwŏn to Haeju. It connects to the P'yŏngbu Line at Sariwŏn, to the Ŭnnyul Line at Ŭnp'a, to the Paech'ŏn Line at Changbang, and to the Ongjin Line at Haeju. It plays an important role in the transportation of freight and passengers in North and South Hwanghae provinces, serving important mining and industrial areas, as well as one of the DPRK's most important ports for foreign trade.

Unnyul Line

The Ŭnnyul Line is a non-electrified standard-gauge secondary line of the Korean State Railway in the North and South Hwanghae provinces of North Korea, running from Ŭnp'a to Ch'ŏlgwang. It is an important line in economic terms, connecting the agricultural and ore-producing areas of Kwail and Ŭnnyul counties with the rest of the DPRK.

Pyongdok Line

The P'yŏngdŏk Line is an electrified standard-gauge trunk line of the Korean State Railway in North Korea running from Taedonggang Station in P'yŏngyang, where it connects to the P'yŏngbu, P'yŏngnam, P'yŏngra and P'yŏngŭi Lines, to Kujang, where it connects to the Manp'o and Ch'ŏngnyŏn P'arwŏn Lines. The total length of the line is 192.3 km (119.5 mi).

Manpo Line railway line

The Manp'o Line is an electrified standard-gauge trunk line of the North Korean State Railway running from Sunch'ŏn on the P'yŏngra Line to Manp'o on the Pukpu Line. The line continues on from Manp'o to Ji'an, China.

Pukbunaeryuk Line railway line

The Pukbunaeryuk Line, also called the Hyesan–Manp'o Ch'ŏngnyŏn Line after the only completed stage of three planned stages, is an electrified standard-gauge secondary trunk line of the Korean State Railway in Chagang and Ryanggang Provinces, North Korea, connecting the Manp'o Line at Manp'o to the Paektusan Ch'ŏngnyŏn Line at Hyesan. It also connects to the China Railway Meiji Railway via the Ji'an Yalu River Border Railway Bridge between Manp'o and Meihekou, China.

Paektusan Chongnyon Line railway line

The Paektusan Ch'ŏngnyŏn Line is an electrified standard-gauge secondary mainline of the Korean State Railway running from Kilju on the P'yŏngra Line to Hyesan on the Pukbunaeryuk Line; it connects to the narrow gauge Paengmu Line at Paeg'am Ch'ŏngnyŏn Station, and to the Samjiyŏn Line at Wiyŏn Ch'ŏngnyŏn Station.

Kangwon Line railway line

The Kangwŏn Line is a 145.8 km (90.6 mi) electrified standard-gauge trunk line of the Korean State Railway of North Korea, connecting Kowŏn on the P'yŏngra Line to P'yŏnggang, providing an east–west connection between the P'yŏngra and Ch'ŏngnyŏn Ich'ŏn lines.

The P'yŏngra Line is an electrified standard-gauge trunk line of the Korean State Railway in North Korea, running from P'yŏngyang to Rajin, where it connects with the Hambuk Line. It is North Korea's main northeast-southwest rail line.

Unha Station is a railway station in Manp'o municipal city, Chagang province, North Korea. It is the terminus of the Unha Line of the Korean State Railway.

Kujang Ch'ŏngnyŏn Station is a railway station in Kujang-ŭp, Kujang county, North P'yŏngan province, North Korea. Located on the Manp'o Line of the Korean State Railway, it is an important junction point, being a terminus of the Ch'ŏngnyŏn P'arwŏn Line, the P'yŏngdŏk Line, and the Ryong'am Line.

Kuunbong Station

Kuunbong Station is a freight-only railway station in Unbong-rodongjagu, Chasŏng County, Chagang Province, North Korea; adjacent to the Chasŏng Dam on the Yalu River, it is the terminus of the Unbong Line of the Korean State Railway.
