Marcaim or Madkai is a census town in Ponda taluka, North Goa district in the state of Goa, India. [1] A number of its residents have the last name, Kamat, and belong to the Goud Saraswat Brahmin community.

It is famous for is Navdurga temple, where the idol of the goddess has a tilted head, which holds an annual festival called a "Zatra" around November (Actually the Kartik Shukla Paksha Asthami day every year).

The temple is also infamous for an ongoing legal suit filed in the Goa Bench of the Bombay High Court by the Mahajans (temple trustees) accusing members of Devi Navadurga Pratishtan (villagers) of taking articles from temple and shifting them from one place to another. [2]

The Shirali Maha Ganapathi Mahammaya Temple is the Kuladevata Temple of the Goud Saraswat Brahmin community. The temple deity is a Kuladev of the Kamaths, Bhats, Puraniks, Prabhus, Joishys, Mallyas, Kudvas and Nayak families from the Goud Saraswat Brahmin community. The temple is located at Shirali in the Uttar Kannada district of Karnataka state. It is a five-minute drive from either Bhatkal or Murdeshwar. The Temple was built about 400 years ago. Vishwajit Pratapsingh Rane is an Indian politician and a cabinet Minister in the Government of Goa headed by Pramod Sawant. He is the son of Pratapsingh Raoji Rane who is a former Chief Minister of Goa and an incumbent Indian National Congress party MLA in the Goa Legislative Assembly. Vishwajit Rane was the Minister of Health, Agriculture & Craftsmen Training in the Government of Goa led by Digambar Kamat from June 2007 to March 2012. Rane resigned as the MLA of the Valpoi Constituency and also from the Indian National Congress on 16 March 2017. Sudin Madhav Dhavalikar, also known as Sudin alias 'Ramkrishna' Dhavalikar, is an Indian politician from the state of Goa, and a senior leader of the MG Party. He is a five term member of the Goa Legislative Assembly, representing the Marcaim constituency.

Currently, he is Minister of Art and Culture, Civil Supplies and Price Control and Tribal Welfare in Pramod Sawant ministry.
