Margalef is a village in Catalonia, Spain. It is situated on the edge of Montsant and is a popular ecotourism destination, especially among rock climbers. The rock type is conglomerate and it has more than 500 climbing routes of different grades, from 4 to 9b+. [4] [5] Many of the buildings in the village are also built on conglomerate formations.

Margalef's important economic activity is agriculture, mainly producing olives, almonds, and fruits.

Chris Sharma American rock climber (born 1981)

Chris Omprakash Sharma is an American rock climber. In 2007, NPR wrote that Sharma was considered the world's best rock climber. He is known for being the world's first climber to redpoint a 9b (5.15b) route and the second to climb a 9a+ (5.15a) and a 9b+ (5.15c) route. He is also known for climbing the world's first 9a+ (5.15a) and 9b (5.15b) deep-water solo routes. He bolted and first ascended many of the hardest lines of the Catalonia region in Spain. In 2015, he opened the gym Sharma Climbing BCN in Barcelona. In 2019, he plans to open Europe's largest climbing gym in Madrid, Spain.

Ramon Margalef

Ramon Margalef i López was a Spanish Catalan biologist and ecologist. He was Emeritus Professor of Ecology at the Faculty of Biology of the University of Barcelona. Margalef, one of the most prominent scientists that Spain has produced, worked at the Institute of Applied Biology (1946–1951), and at the Fisheries Research Institute, which he directed during 1966-1967. He created the Department of Ecology of the University of Barcelona, from where he trained a huge number of ecologists, limnologists and oceanographers. In 1967 he became Spain's first professor of ecology.

Ramón Julián Puigblanqué Spanish rock climber

Ramón Julián Puigblanque is a professional Spanish rock climber specializing in lead climbing competitions. He won two World Championships, in 2007 and 2011, three European Championships, in 2004 2010 and 2015, and one Lead Climbing World Cup in 2010. From 2001 to 2016, he participated in 16 seasons of the World Cup, winning 21 World Cup stages. He has also climbed many routes of 9a (5.14d) and harder.

Cornudella de Montsant Municipality in Catalonia, Spain

Alella Municipality in Catalonia, Spain

Oliana is a municipality in the comarca of the Alt Urgell in Catalonia, Spain. It is situated in the Segre valley immediately below the Oliana reservoir. Isona i Conca Dellà is a municipality in the comarca of the Pallars Jussà in Catalonia, Spain. It is situated in the valley of the Conques river in the south-east of the comarca. It was formed in 1970 by the fusion of the following municipalities: Isona, Basturs, Benavent de la Conca, Biscarri, Conques, Covet, Gramenet, Llordà, Masos de Sant Martí, Montodó, Orcau i Figuerola d'Orcau, Sant Romà d'Abella and Siall. Guardiola de Berguedà is a municipality in the comarca of the Berguedà in Catalonia. It is situated at the confluence of the Bastareny and Llobregat rivers in the north of the comarca. Montsant DO

Montsant is a Spanish Denominación de Origen Protegida (DOP) for wine located in the province of Tarragona and covers 12 municipalities. It was previously known as the Falset subzone of Tarragona (DO), and was created as a separate DO in the early 2000s. Regional approval came in 2001, and from 2002 wines were sold as Montsant rather than Tarragona. Montsant takes its name from the Montsant mountains in the area.

Abella de la Conca Municipality in Catalonia, Spain

Abella de la Conca is a village in the province of Province of Lleida in the county of Pallars Jussà and the autonomous community of Catalonia, Spain. The municipality is situated on the eastern bank of the Tremp Basin. It comprises the high valleys of the Abella River tributary of the Conques river on its right bank and of the Rams River. Stefano Ghisolfi is an Italian professional rock climber and sport climber. He participates in international competitions in three disciplines: Lead, Bouldering and Speed, obtaining his best results in Lead climbing. On rock, he redpointed 9b+ (5.15c), onsighted 8c (5.14b) and solved a 8B+ (V14) boulder problem.

Sachi Amma Japanese climber

Sachi Amma is a Japanese professional Rock climber and Sport climber. He won the IFSC Climbing World Cup twice, in 2012 and 2013.

Laura Rogora Italian sport climber

Laura Rogora is an Italian sport climber. In 2015, she became the second youngest climber, at age 14, to complete a 9a (5.14d) route. In 2019, Rogora qualified to compete at the 2020 Summer Olympic Games, finished 2nd in lead at the IFSC Climbing European Championships and won 3 of 4 possible gold medals at the IFSC Climbing World Youth Championships, coming first in lead, boulder and combined categories in the Junior age group.
