George Corley Wallace Jr. was an American politician who served as the 45th governor of Alabama for four terms. He is notoriously remembered for his staunch segregationist and populist views. During Wallace's tenure as governor of Alabama,he promoted "industrial development,low taxes,and trade schools." Wallace sought the United States presidency as a Democratic Party candidate three times,and once as an American Independent Party candidate,being unsuccessful each time. Wallace opposed desegregation and supported the policies of "Jim Crow" during the Civil Rights Movement,declaring in his 1963 inaugural address that he stood for "segregation now,segregation tomorrow,segregation forever."
Herbert Leon "Sonny" Callahan was an American businessman and politician from Alabama. After being elected as a Democrat from Mobile to the state house and senate,he shifted to the Republican Party after losing a race for Lieutenant Governor of Alabama in 1982. He was repeatedly elected as a Republican to the United States House of Representatives,serving from 1985 to 2003. Afterward he established his own lobbying firm and continued to be active in the Republican Party.
Clifton Beverly Briley was an American attorney and politician,the first mayor of the newly consolidated metropolitan government of Nashville and Davidson County in Tennessee. Elected to the mayor's position in 1962 as a Democrat,Briley served three terms from 1963 to 1975;he was prevented by term limits from running again. He had previously served as county judge of Davidson County for several terms,from 1950 to 1963.

Michael Craig Dow is an American politician who served as the 106th mayor of Mobile,Alabama from 1989 to 2005. He is widely credited with leading the redevelopment of downtown Mobile. He was mentioned as a potential gubernatorial candidate in 2010,but declined to run.
John L. LeFlore (1903–1976) was an American civil rights leader and politician in Mobile,Alabama. While working for the United States Postal Service,LeFlore worked for integration. He founded the local chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People in 1925 and led it for decades. During the Massive resistance controversy over school desegregation,Alabama expelled the NAACP in 1956,so LeFlore helped found the Non-Partisan Voting League. He served as its director of casework from 1959 until his death,including organizing two lawsuits which reached the United States Supreme Court,one concerning Mobile's at-large method of selecting the commissioners who ran the city,and one which led to desegregation of Mobile County's schools. In 1974 LeFlore won election to Alabama's House of Representatives,but died during his term.

Joseph Nicholas Langan (1912–2004) was an American lawyer,soldier and Democratic politician who served in both houses of the Alabama legislature and became known for his progressive policies in Mobile,Alabama following his military service in World War II. After becoming one of only two legislators to oppose the Boswell Amendment to restrict African-American suffrage,Langan failed to win re-election to the Alabama Senate. Undeterred,Langan won election and re-election to the Mobile City Commission,his native city's three-member governing body. Thus he also served several one-year terms as Mayor of Mobile,an office rotated among the three commissioners.

A special election for Alabama's 1st congressional district was held following the resignation of Jo Bonner on August 2,2013,to become vice chancellor for the University of Alabama. Primary elections were held on September 24. A runoff in the Republican primary took place on November 5 and the general election was pushed back to December 17. Republican Bradley Byrne won the election by a wide margin in the strongly conservative district.

The 2022 Alabama gubernatorial election took place on November 8,2022. Voter turnout was 38.5%,a major decrease from the 63.1% Alabama voter turnout in the 2020 presidential race. Incumbent Governor Kay Ivey took office on April 10,2017 upon the resignation of Robert J. Bentley (R) and won a full term in 2018. She won her bid for a second full term in a landslide. Ivey was sworn in for her second full term on January 16,2023. Neighboring Tennessee,where voter turnout in the 2020 presidential race was 69.3%,saw only 38.6% voter turnout in its 2022 governor's race.
Ann Smith Bedsole is an American politician,businesswoman,community activist,and philanthropist. She was the first Republican woman to serve in the Alabama House of Representatives and,alongside Frances Strong,the first woman to serve in the Alabama Senate. In 2002,she was inducted into the Alabama Academy of Honor.
The 2022 Wisconsin fall general election was held in the U.S. state of Wisconsin on November 8,2022. All of Wisconsin's partisan executive and administrative offices were up for election,as well as one of Wisconsin's U.S. Senate seats,Wisconsin's eight seats in the United States House of Representatives,the seventeen odd-numbered seats in the Wisconsin State Senate,and all 99 seats in the Wisconsin State Assembly. The 2022 Wisconsin fall primary was held on August 9,2022.
