Mata Khan District (Pashto : متا خان ولسوالۍ, Persian : ولسوالی متاخان) is a district of Paktika Province, Afghanistan. The district is within the heartland of the Andar tribe of Ghilji Pashtuns. [1] The estimated population in 2019 was 26,720. [2]

Mata Khan District is located in the northern part of Paktika province, bordering Paktia's Zurmat District and Ghazni's Andar District.

Sardeh Band Airport

Sardeh Band Airport is an airport located at the town of Sardeh Band, and about 1 kilometre (1 mi) north of the Russian-built dam called Sardeh Band Dam on the eastern edge of Andar District, Ghazni Province, Afghanistan. The airfield lies in a valley 2 miles (3 km) northwest of lake Mota Khan, near the border with Paktika Province.

Nika District District

Nika District, also known as Naka, is one of the most remote districts in Paktika Province, Afghanistan. It lies in a bowl-shaped valley and is only accessible by a few rocky river beds and a single dirt road, the latter of which is not passable in winter. The valley's economy is rudimentary and relies on wood cutting and subsistence farming. The district is within the heartland of the Zadran tribe of Pashtuns. The population in 2019 was estimated at 16,747. It was, until the US invasion 2001, a bastion for the Taliban, with mid-level and a few senior Taliban commanders spending time there, including Jalaluddin Haqqani, who has since taken up a prominent role in Al Queda and is rumored to have been one of Osama bin Laden's senior advisors.

Urgun is the main town of the Urgun District of Paktika Province, Afghanistan. With an estimated population of 10,665, Urgun is the largest city of Paktika, while Urgun District, with a population of 89,718, is also the most populous district of the province. Urgun historically used to be the capital of Paktika, but in the 1970s, the capital was shifted from Urgun to Sharana in the west because Urgun was not easily accessible from the main Kabul–Kandahar Highway.

Sardeh Band or Sardeband is a town located on the eastern edge of Andar District, Ghazni Province, Afghanistan, near the border with Paktika Province. The town is located near the Sardeh Band Dam. The Sardeh Band Airport is located in the town.
