Tun Md Raus bin Sharif SSM ARLC (born 4 February 1951) is a retired Malaysian lawyer who served as the eighth Chief Justice of Malaysia [1] from 1 April 2017 until 31 July 2018. [2] He replaced Arifin Zakaria.

The Most Esteemed Order of Loyalty to the Crown of Malaysia is a Malaysian federal award presented for meritorious service to the country.

The Chief Justice of Malaysia, also known as the Chief Justice of the Federal Court, is the office and title of the head of the Malaysian judiciary system. The title has been in use since 1994, and prior to this it was known as the Lord President of the Federal Court. The Chief Justice is the head of the Federal Court, the highest court of Malaysia. It is the highest position in Malaysian judicial system followed by the President of the Court of Appeal of Malaysia, Chief Judge of Malaya, and the Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak.

He began his formal education at Kampung Astana Raja Primary School in Rembau and went on to complete his secondary education in Tunku Besar Secondary School in Tampin. He completed his STPM certificate in Sekolah Tuanku Abdul Rahman (STAR), Ipoh, Perak.

He joined Legal and Judicial Services as a magistrate in 1976.

On 1 November 1994, he was made a Judicial Commissioner in the High Court at Kuala Lumpur. On 12 January 1996, he was appointed as a Judge at the High Court of Malaya. Since then, he had served Shah Alam High Court, Muar High Court, Penang High Court and Kuala Lumpur High Court.

The Court of Appeal is an appellate court of the judiciary system in Malaysia. It is the second highest court in the hierarchy below the Federal Court. This court was created in 1994 as part of reforms made to the judiciary to create a second tier appellate court after the Privy Council appeals to the United Kingdom was abolished in 1985. The court is headed by the President of the Court of Appeal of Malaysia, who is the second most senior post in Malaysian judiciary after the Chief Justice of Malaysia.

The President of the Court of Appeal of Malaysia, is the office and title of the deputy head of the Malaysian judiciary system. The title has been in use since 24 June 1994, when the Court of Appeal of Malaysia was formed. The President of the Court of Appeal is the head of the Court of Appeal, the second highest court of Malaysia. It is the second highest position in Malaysian judicial system after the Chief Justice of Malaysia and followed by the Chief Judge of Malaya, and the Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak.

In 2017, his tenure as the Chief Justice of Malaysia was extended further. [4] The re-appointments of Md Raus and Zulkefli to their respective posts were controversial, as their terms were extended after they reached the mandatory retirement age of 66 years and six months. [5] Bar Council called the move "unconstitutional" and will cause "widespread and severe erosion of public confidence in the judiciary and its independence". [6]

Tan Sri Datuk Seri Panglima Richard Malanjum is the ninth Chief Justice of Malaysia. Before joining the judicial service, he was a practising lawyer and was the President of the Sabah Law Association, the bar association for the state of Sabah. Malanjum joined the judicial service in 1992 as a Judicial Commissioner. He eventually became a High Court Judge and was later appointed as Court of Appeal Judge and subsequently, Federal Court Judge. He became the Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak on 26 July 2006. The Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak is the fourth highest judicial officer in Malaysia. He was sworn-in as the ninth Chief Justice of Malaysia, the highest judicial officer in Malaysia on 11 July 2018, becoming the first person from the Borneo states of Malaysia to ascend to the office. He retired from his last office as Chief Justice on 13 April 2019.

The Darjah Utama Yang Amat Mulia Bintang Sarawak is the highest state order in the state of Sarawak. It is conferred to those who rendered excellent service towards the development of the state of Sarawak and Malaysia. The Order was established in 1964, a year after the Sarawak's independence within the formation of Malaysia.
