Menghu Islet (Chinese : 猛虎 ; pinyin :Měnghǔ Yǔ; Pe̍h-ōe-jī :bíng-hóo-sū) [3] [4] (Tiger Island [5] ) is an islet located southwest of Lesser Kinmen (Lieyu) in Lieyu Township, Kinmen County (Quemoy), Fujian Province, Republic of China (Taiwan). [6] The islet was originally named Hu-tzu Hsü [7] [8] (Hu-tzu Hsu [9] ) (虎仔嶼 [10] :37 [2] [ deprecated source ]).

History

In 1965, the island was given its present name. [10] :37

In 2006, a Chinese fishing ship carrying 198 Chinese box turtles for illicit sale in Fujian was caught in the waters adjacent to Menghu Islet. [11]

On November 3, 2017, a fishing ship with five crew members from Longhai City, Zhangzhou, Fujian, China was caught in the waters adjacent to Menghu Islet. [12]

On July 23, 2019, Ho Cheng (賀政), the new leader of the ROC Army Kinmen Defense Command (陸軍金門防衛指揮部), visited the soldiers on Shi Islet and Menghu Islet. [13] [14]

After 10 PM on August 14, 2019, two members of the Kinmen branch of the Coast Guard Administration (Taiwan) were severely injured when they jumped from their ship onto a fishing ship from Mainland China which had been caught fishing in the waters around Menghu Islet. [15] [16]

Geography

Menghu Islet is 3.7 km (2.3 mi) southwest of Lesser Kinmen (Lieyu). [17] The island is said to look like a tiger. [2]

Wuqiu, Kinmen Rural township

Wuqiu is a group of islands comprising two major islands, namely Greater Qiu Islet and Smaller Qiu Islet, in the Taiwan Strait. Administratively, Wuqiu Township is a rural township which is part of Kinmen County (Quemoy) of the Republic of China (Taiwan). It is the smallest township in Kinmen County and is located 72 nmi (133 km) northeast of the rest of the county. The township is 73 nmi (135 km) from the Port of Taichung on Taiwan. The closest territory under PRC control is the neighboring Luci Island, Xiuyu District, Putian, Fujian, which is 9 nmi (17 km) to the north-northwest. Greater Qiu Island is the site of the Wuqiu Lighthouse.

Erdan Island is an island in Lieyu Township, Kinmen County (Quemoy), Taiwan. The island has been called Seao-tan. Erdan Island is 12 km (7.5 mi) from Greater Kinmen Island and 4 km (2.5 mi) from Xiamen (Amoy) Island.

Dadeng Subdistrict is an insular subdistrict in Xiang'an District, Xiamen, Fujian, China. During the Second Taiwan Strait Crisis in 1958, the islands were designated by the State Council of the People's Republic of China as the "Hero's Triangle" (英雄三島). The islands were part of Kinmen County (Quemoy) in Republican China and are claimed by the Republic of China (Taiwan) as part of Kinmen County.

Binlang Islet is an islet located in Lieyu Township, Kinmen County (Quemoy), Taiwan (ROC). The islet can be seen from the shore near Lingshui Lake and from the shore near Shaxi Fort (沙溪堡) in the southwestern part of Lesser Kinmen (Lieyu) as well as from Siming District, Xiamen (Amoy), Fujian, China (PRC). The highest point on the islet is 47 m (154 ft) above sea level.

Hujing Island / Huching Island / Hujing Islet (Chinese: 虎井嶼; pinyin: Hǔjǐng Yǔ; Wade–Giles: Hu3-ching33; Pe̍h-ōe-jī: Hó͘-chéⁿ-sū) is an islet in Hujing Village (虎井里), Magong City, Penghu County (the Pescadores), Taiwan. The island has also been known as Da'anshan (大案山) and the nearby Tongpan Island as Xiao'anshan (小案山). The southern part of the island is crossed by the Tropic of Cancer. Hujing Island is the seventh largest island in Penghu (the Pescadores). The island is 7 nmi (13 km) from Penghu Main Island. There are mountains on the eastern end (Dongshan) and western end (Sishan) of the island.
